This is incorrect, JW isn't the sole arbiter of firing coaches. People don't realize if it wasn't for Wildhack JB would still be the coach right now.
Actually I do. Posted that a few weeks afterward when I heard about it but it was deleted.

Dasher, I agree with you. Especially the elephant in the room part. I was aware of that before the hiring was announced, if it was going to stay inside the program. I was replying to Kingtidge's post that in effect stated that JB was responsible for all of it including the hiring of his successor. Though one could say he was still responsible by putting JW in the position of in effect dictating JW's choice if he was going to hire from within. Though he couldn't really do it, and we'll ever know, I still think the 2nd assistant in line would have turned out to be the better coach for the team. As I've posted earlier (in another thread), maybe he'll get that opportunity as the one after the next one. All conjecture of course.
This is such a sad situation. We should all stop blaming JB though. Red owns the past year and a half and it has truly been beyond awful. Autry is solely responsible for this now.

Maybe we should let JB pick the next coach then.
I get no one likes that he had a stranglehold on the program for far too long, but have we ever thought that maybe we should have listened to the guy who won over 1100 games? Like if we were going to go in house anyway, going with the guy who the head coach didn't recommend is kind of insane

I don't think that's what I said.

He retained a search firm to evaluate prospective candidates. That's what I was agreeing with your post about.

Then decided to delimit the candidate pool artificially by only considering in-house options, which was a poor strategic decision.

And it was 100%, completely the wrong strategic approach to take, given the circumstances. Half measures $$@& the program.

Let the stranglehold continue then. I don't really care much anymore.

We're a football school now anyways.

I mean essentially the decision that was made was to not piss off JB and his supporters as much as they could have.

...do delimit and limit mean the same thing?

Inflammable perk is improperly named. : r/Helldivers

It wasn't the right move at the time, and everything else is just rationalized confirmatory bias to pretend that we had limited choices.

In actuality, JB's lack of performance meant that the end should have probably come sooner than it did, and his conduct leading up to the end meant that the AD shouldn't have catered to him anymore. JB deserves everything for the program he built, but also a lion's share of blame for the 8-year extended decline.

Pretending that choices were constrained, or that we had limited options, is what led to this mess.

Which is why I responded the way I did to the post you made above. Of course JW wants the basketball program to be successful. But his actions and choices have not maximized the possibility of that happening. Talking about who bleeds orange, who loves Syracuse Athletics more, is all bunk. This is a performance driven profession, and making wishy-washy decisions based on feelings and unimportant evaluative criteria is the wrong approach.

As we have definitively seen over the last year and a half.
I am not sure that JW had the power to do anything more than what he did. There were a lot of big guns between the decision to fire JB. Which he ended up doing. Yes, he should have done that earlier. No question. I don't think he had the Board behind him. Or the big money.

It certainly not a cakewalk, but Fran has shown he can get players and can coach... If McCord wins his appeal, .500+ is at least likely
I hope ur right.. but they haven't picked up anything to speak of on defense and they lost alot.. and let's be honest the defense wasn't to great this year and we had a very soft schedule compared to this coming year

I.E., the path of least resistance

Versus turn the page, dealing with the incredibly short-term pain, and then moving past it.

And how did it work out? Do we have big donors of work now? The support of prominent former players? Are we recruiting well? Has the station of our program improved over the past 2 years since Red was hired, or declined?

I get JW we made a choice to avoid short-term pain, but it caused MORE pain down the road. And eventually we're going to end up doing the thing that we should have done initially, which is make a clean break, and then have a bigger hole to dig out of.

Also, and I can't believe I have to skate in this, but you know what? You can't please everyone. And sometimes you need to piss some people off to shed a controversial albatross that had been holding our program back. The alumni base, fans, boosters, and everyone will rally behind a program that is successful. The goodwill dries up when the program sucks, in the court sucks.

Oh well.

Lol.. yes.. but why panic? This team was never going to sniff the tourney or the NIT...See barely beating Lemoyne and Youngstown State
Ha, it was a sarcastic post. At 0-6 another poster said it isn't time to panic. I said are you nuts? We're 0-6 against the P5, at what point are fire alarms going off.

So I just continue to point to this record as it continues, it's all snark.

Two thoughts. First, in the age of the portal, with the right new hire it may be quicker to dig out of the hole than it would have been without the portal. And second, who knew that he couldn't coach? I don't recall seeing anyone on here saying that at the time. And I don't recall anyone saying it after last year. But some of us saw it immediately during the first game this year. Or suspected we saw it.
