Why not both? Red was dealt and bad hand and he has played it poorly.
I agree completely. Yes, he didn't get a team that has top 10 talent, not counting Freeman.
But he got, at the worst, average ACC talent.
The problem is that he can not seem to be able to figure out how to get the most of the talent they have and put together an offense/defense that maximizes the talent we have.
He frankly seems a bit lost, and can not think outside of the box.
I have no idea what kind of offense they are running. It just seems to be every man for himself, no set plays at all. There is no effort to put our players in their best position - nothing is planned at all.
And the reason their defense is so atrocious is that again, no one seems to know what to do.
I call it the hopeful defense - lets hope that someone else makes the big play while I just move around lackadasically. No one is locked in on defense, showing max effort - except for Cuffe and Taylor.
They no doubt learned this from their prior coaches.
Say what you want about Boeheim - he got the most out of his talent and his teams played good defense.
It is hard to believe that at one time our zone defense was so feared no one wanted to play us in the NCAA tournament.
Now, Syracuse elicits giggles when anyone talks about our defense.
And no one, with the exception of Cuffe and Taylor, seems to show the never surrender, no give up mentality. No one on the bench seems to have it either. I think this is a key ingredient that walked out the door when Gerry left. That dude proved on the court that he would always give 150% effort and from what I have read often worked extra hours helping the players work on their game. If I recall, he spent a great deal of time last year with Bell working on his 3 point shot.
