Wildhack Press Conference: 11 AM

I think people who be happier with the sound issue if they would say they are bringing in experts or working with the sound company who installed it and not just say Pete and the crew are tweaking it..

I also get that they have a hard time figuring it out if it really is an issue of worse when people are in the dome.

Maybe bring in the news people and show off the sound in the empty building so people had a feeling they have a baseline to work off of.

For all we know they have to adjust 20 different things to handle each input because the sound board doesnt have a simple way to adjust multiple speakers at once.

How do you know Pete’s crew doesn’t include sound engineers?

What’s really important short term ………It’s loud in there !!

I’d assume they’re pulling in outside resources at this point, even if internal sound engineers are involved. Syracuse is probably doing the right things…but Wildhack’s answer to the question was sub-optimal.

At the same time, people get way to critical about press conference answers. It’s not just this example, it’s pretty much a universal issue. As a society, we’d be much better off if we could be more charitable in our assessments of other people.

In other words, it wasn’t a perfect answer and I don’t even slightly care. Based on the general theme of his answer I’m confident Syracuse is on the right path.

I dont.. But if the goal was to make the masses feel better it would help to be clear on who they are reaching out too.. Lots of people grumbling about it and just saying Petes crew doesnt give the warm and fuzzies given the results of past issues

I have had lots of dealings with Pete on issues in the past and I can see why we still have many of the same issues going on.

like being told years ago there is no need to fix/improve the wifi because people would never want/need to use it..

I think the sound improves when there are more bodies in the Dome to help absorb some of the reverberations.

It appears this sound issue is problematic and generally perplex relative to this particular type of technology/roof design, etc. US Bank Stadium in Minnesota dealt with sound issues, etc. of their own. Understanding that the Dome went with PTFE vs. ETFE, I'd imagine the general core properties of them are somewhat similar.

The article is from 5 years ago and didn't have or point out a specific remedy, etc. Only that in moving forward with a new technology, etc., all players will have to do their part working together in dealing with and satisfactorily addressing the inherent undesirable "side effect."

"As with all new materials and techniques in venue design and construction, time and experience will eventually deliver new solutions. But, says Elwell, “ETFE is here to stay” as an element of stadium design. “In terms of sound, we’re going to have to learn to work with it.”

No questions pertaining to Dome upgrades. What’s the status with 5G Wi-Fi, individual seating and the addition on the east side of the Dome? How’s the funding going for the $150 million Manley upgrade? Our local reporters are all asleep at the wheel. Any chance for Gameday in the future? He was at ESPN, so he knows what they’re looking for. They had an opportunity to ask questions as long as needed and didn’t take advantage of the situation presented.

You couldn’t be more wrong. Just like the Wi-Fi installation if you don’t know details you just assume the worst and take shots at SU.

I am assuming what Wildhack meant is Pete's crew is working with the correct people to fix it as it would fall under their job description as they are in charge of the dome facility. (as most facilities managers would)

Doesn't mean they are sending someone in house or that they would have anyone in house to fix it. Kind of like a general contractor working on an electrical issue on a building. They call the electrician!

Agree. This was an opportunity to get some good info that was lost.

Then again. the people covering the presser looked to be beat writers and Axe. A more traditional journalist with a big picture viewpoint might have been better positioned to ask these kinds of questions.

2 words: Pee troughs.
More pee troughs.
I think they are eliminating the restrooms completely. There won't be a need for them since the new seats will all have functioning toilets (see photo).

I could also be wrong.

"Says if both SU and N.C. State are still ranked on Oct. 15, it’ll be the first time in 21 years two ranked football programs play at the Dome." Ouch!!!
Yeah… he could’ve worded it differently or not mentioned that bit.

So what exactly was the point of the press conference? I didn't see it. I'll see if I can find it I guess.
Think it was just a seasonal update, like the State of the Nation address type of a thing.
