Seems like a good fit. In addition to all the things mentioned about him across the Basketball and Football boards, worth considering that he was a higher-up (although not in charge) when Army Football joined the American Conference. His experience in that regard could be huge for the next round of realignment in a few years.

Well that's not happening. Season doesn't end until March 7.

Doesn't mean you can't have someone in place by March 15-20, but a lot will depend on who they target and are they still playing in the NCAA Tournament.

That said, no matter what happens, I don't anticipate next year being a magical year that comes together and things are immediately fixed.

If the new chancellor and AD are already around then it makes sense to me that they’ll be content to let Autry and KS/JW take the heat for a month until this is all over. Then fresh start.

Ain’t no way that Autry is staying anyway and no way that any of them will be making a decision on the HC without the Board and the new Chancelor/AD anyway.

Seems like a win to me. Full house clean.

I’ll say it again too, yes football sucked last year but we are damn lucky to not have the football program in shambles too. Top portal and recruiting classes by CNY standards at least.

Big time coaches are not looking to accept a job when they don’t know who their future boss will be. The AD can promise things that the next AD won’t guarantee or someone they don’t mesh with.

I think it severely limits our candidate pool.

But if the next chancellor promises them things…

One weird thing w JW is The amt of vitriol Simmons has for JW and has allowed jt to be broadcasted is troubling. The narrative is JW was a bad espn exec who got this sweetheart port of call from su

Sounds like mcshay joined in on the anti JW rhetoric too. I’m sure Simmons was a handful but it’s part of the concern .

I was going to abstain from this thread but I can address this.

I like Bill. I like John. I worked with them both.

John was a phenomenal exec and was near-universally liked and respected. Bill was (and is) a tremendous talent who was beloved by his Grantland...

I don’t think there was a war. I see a history of Simmons being mad at Wildhack for his leadership style, which is pretty common with execs and ‘talent.’ I didn’t find mention of Wildhack having particular beef with Simmons or forcing him out. Certainly possible I missed something. If it was a war, it seems like one of the guys didn’t know about it haha.

ESPN has the disadvantage of being the corporate behemoth that can’t get away with some of the stuff Barstool or independent podcasts can get away with. Just comes with the territory.
