In last week's 10 Takes, we examined the best five-man lineups in each Power Six conference. This week, it's time to take a peek at the lineups that just aren't working. Again, big thanks to Evan Miya who tracks all the data for the five-man lineups of every team in the country. Here are the worst two lineups in each Power Six conference (minimum 100 possessions) and what their efficiency margin is.

ACC

  • Louisville’s El Ellis, Mike James, Jae’Lyn Withers, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and Sydney Curry: -4.6 efficiency margin in 134 offensive possessions.
  • Syracuse’s Chris Bell, Jesse Edwards, Joe Girard, Judah Mintz and Benny Williams: -5.8 efficiency margin in 208 offensive possessions.

Yikes.

That must be incorrect. We need Bell for spacing.

Stats matter when they’re convenient.

Bell and Benny disappear for entire halfs. No rebounds, assists or steals should = no playing time.
What happened to the frosh have to play to get better mantra? Great bowl win for your UB Bulls, congrats.

Who cares. Counting stats, baby.

Also, Roc Nation, diamonds up.

/snark.

Our starting lineup only gets 16 possessions per game? This must be a subset of our games and not the full season to date.

He switches it up a lot with the forwards and gives Benny and Bell the quick hook pretty frequently. Bell has played 13 mins or less in 4 of the last 6 games. Not saying that fully explains it but it may be less we expect.

Hasnt gone anywhere. Play the other frosh who put more effort into mixing it up for rebounds and turnovers.

JB did respond to something similar about Chris Bell and Benny vs Taylor and Brown

I think what he's saying is fair to a degree.

I think his issue is he's seeing it as Taylor vs Bell and Brown vs Benny.

It's the lineup. Bell and Benny together especially on defense and with any sort of rebounding

Wait a second, how tall is this guy?

Taylor needs to pull the trigger when he gets open looks from 3, that's what he's in the game for. If he doesn't, it freezes the offense.

The issue is that no player has been consistent game to game as he states. We lost lots of offense last year with Buddy, Jimmy and Cole, all starters, who scored an average of 46.8 points a game between them. What 3 players on our current squad can replace those points? Same with rebounds who replaces the 16.4 rebounds per game we lost? That is really what the staff is looking at and why JB is all over it explaining in his press conferences.

Joe and Jesse are scoring together a total of 3.8 points more per game than last year and Jesse/Girard are rebounding 4.5 more rebounds/game. Even counting on playing better defense than last year that’s a lot of scoring and rebounding to just match last years‘ numbers .Between Benny, Bell, Brown, Taylor, JBA, Copeland, Hima etc we have to find enough consistency to score and rebound. We have poorer 3 point shooting (.377 vs.328) this year so we need even more rebounds and good scoring 2 point possessions to make up for it.
