Hop should not get a formal, full coaching interview. His ship has sailed.

However, Hop should get a call from JW (or whoever is doing the hire) to ask his opinion on what the qualities the next Syracuse head coach needs and maybe even ask if Hop has any coaching names he recommends.

It’s not one of my goals in life to be message board famous, so that’s alright.
Well, you are on your way to accomplishing that goal young man. You have a lot of growing up to do. I hoped we could have a conversation about BH when this started. But you went right to name calling. Not a sign of maturity. Good luck in you r future endeavors.

I did zero name calling.

lol if Hodgson gets less support here because of what may have happened between him and Trey …. Our fans are totally missing the big picture.

We are absolutely no position to be THAT picky, especially for a HC that has some serious potential and has shown more than Red has.

We are close to basketball purgatory but let’s bad mouth our best chance to get out because we have moral high ground…

Hurley and Coach K have said stuff to kids too - get over it.

I’m sure there are some that would take Hop/GMac over BH just because of this one story

Honestly, I don't care enough about you to get in to this but when you say I guess you are morally superior, that isn't a compliment. You weren't being sincere. I was all for a constructive talk about BH. You didn't go there. That's fine but that is what started this give and take. Once again, I hold people in authority to a higher bar. I ran one of the largest financial sales forces in the country and if one of my reps said something to someone unprofessional like that, we would have had a big problem. Especially when it is obvious he really wants that job.

I don't disagree with anything thing you said especially the last part in relation to the real world however, if your the Director of the Athletic Dept and your hands get soo tied that you can't do an honest search and are forced to hire someone who's part of a declining program are you then really the Director of that department? It then seems like its just in title only.
Those were unique circumstances. How many coaches are in place for 40 years? I'm not saying that's the way it should have been, but it was the reality of the situation. There were always going to be strong feelings from people with influence about JB, the legacy, and what that meant going forward. If JW's hands had been tied the same way with other decisions, I would feel differently, but the JB transition was different than just about anyting else. We've served our time in purgatory. Now we can do things the way they should have been done.

Unlike Hodgson, Hop has made the tourney. Not fighting for Hop. Just stirring the pot. I don’t think being a Nate Oates assistant is the flex that some think it is.

Boy do I disagree with you about that. And once again, I not only am not ruling BH out, he might just be my first choice. But as bad as things are, I am not willing to make a deal with the devil to get back on top. And I'm not calling BH the devil by any means. Just that for example, if Dave Bliss could get us back, I would pass. Wouldn't you?

This is basketball not a finance company. Hurley is all over the refs at a game, I doubt he’d be that abrasive at a business meeting. Whatever happened with BH and Trey is heat of the moment competition that had a bunch of back and forth

You’re being a pompous arse with your unemployment line blast and your “anyone with tact” comment.

It’s obvious you are buddies with JW. You come running to defend him anytime anyone questions his performance as AD.
I said nothing about an unemployment line. I meant always insisting on doing things your way or walking leads to a lot of walking, not getting fired.

Is it not tactful to know when to pick your battles in the workplace? I have to. Don't you? Maybe after 30 years, you're the guy in charge, but that wasn't always the case, was it? Do people that work under you ever have to do things your way simply because you're the boss and they're not?

Man, this really struck a nerve way more than I would have ever guessed.

Disagree but that is okay. And Hurley yelling at refs is part of the game. He goes a bit over board and I believe it will end badly for him but time will tell.

You didn’t ask this in good faith …

Bliss resigned from Baylor in 2003 following internal and NCAA investigations into a number of circumstances surrounding the murder of Baylor player Patrick Dennehy by teammate Carlton Dotson. These included the alleged involvement of Bliss in making illicit tuition payments for players Dennehy and Corey Herring, and his attempt to frame Dennehy posthumously as a drug dealer in order to provide cover for himself

Are you comparing that to Hodgson?

You know better than that. But you were saying that you were open to guys that were not really straight arrows. . I wondered how far that goes. In case you have a hard time reading this thread, I have said over and over again that BH is either 1 or 2 on my list

I don't think anyone said that though it sounds like in the Hop thread he did get some votes, which is a bit crazy. Love how Hop represented when here but his window has passed. Definitely time for new blood.

Again love hop, but hop hasnt been in Syracuse for a long time now. Including the entire nil period. Not sure his opinion is what I am looking for.

Nothing in Hop's record in his last five years at Washington indicates he would be an upgrade. Hop's teams happened to lose to California Baptist, Northern Illinois, Winthrop, Utah Valley, UC Riverside, and Montana as well. Red might have even picked off a few of those.
HOP HAD YEARS THAT AUTRY NEVER HAD AND WILL NEVER HAVE. Red is hands down the worst coach in basketball.

I think our little chit chat has run its course. I’ll be sure not to respond to any of your comments defending your drinking buddy JW in the future. You’re clearly bias on this subject.

Exactly. I guess I'm surprised this is hard to see for some. JB had his share of controversies and even had an agreement to step down announced by the chancellor that he was able to wiggle out of. Even a dummy like me can see that he figured out how to make sure he was friends with the right people.

But I supposed I'm naive in a lot of ways I don't realize also.

Thanks Cuse2023 for the background on that Hodgson situation.

Sounds like it was a sh!-tty thing to say. It wouldn't be the first sh!-tty thing a coach has said to a player and it won't be the last. Hopefully he's learned from it.

All due respect to Hop, this hire has to be someone that has no connection to JB. And a better track record as an HC.
In fact let’s start by replacing JW and go from there. If you are going to rebuild something start with the very foundation this mess was built on !
