Class of 2023 WR Johntay Cook (TX) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (5/1/25)

Not to be that guy, but are we sure this is the caliber person we want to bring on campus, into the city, county, etc? DART matters in all facets while second chances are important we should also avoid head cases and potential risks

What i read, Somewhat related...

He went to a smoke shop. Tried buying something and his CC was declined. He was asked to leave and he reacted by grabbing a key fob and leaving. When stopped by police they asked for the key fob to be returned and he refused.

Oh and, he was arrested for Marijuana possession in Pottsboro, TX...

Oh my god throw away the key.

At least it wasn't a bathrobe...

Fran has indicated that DART means that a young kid making a couple of stupid mistakes should be given a chance for redemption.

SU is a player now.
Fran has elevated us.
In recent times landing a guy like this would have the board in a frenzy.
Now it's more like business as usual.
Don't know what next year will bring, but we certainly aren't sitting on our hands and feeling satisfied w/table scraps.
He has 16 catches for 273 yards and 2 TDs in his career. He's had two arrests and has been dismissed from Washington. And he hasn't come close to living up to his recruiting profile.

I don't think we even would've been excited about this kid under Babers.

Maybe Fran can get the full expectations and potential out of the kid? A good role model and some DART discipline might be just what he needs.

Maybe (I wouldn’t know). But disobeying police officers orders is a sign you won’t obey authority of any sorts (coaches, professors, etc)
That was my concern as well. I’m not going to get wrapped up in the Possession of Marijuana charge. Weed is everywhere today. That isn’t an excuse for an athlete, but it is what it is. Hopefully the Resisting Arrest was a one time dumb decision. If anyone can straighten this kid out it’s HCFB.

Sometimes kids consider it”cool” to resist police. I know this media culture we have practically encourages it. There is definitely more to the story here, but if Fran brings this kid in, then he knows the respect factor is there. Kid will have a very short leash, I bet. I trust the coaching staff.

You don't have to blindly trust him just because he's a good football coach and won 10 games last year.
You certainly don’t. But we know from the University they are not shy to say no and are typically very risk averse. So if Fran is making these moves and even the University has yet to say anything about it or put their foot down. If you have trust in Fran, you can feel comfortable with a move like this.

I'm sorry, but all of a sudden, we are bringing in kids for visits that have had past legal problems. That is troublesome to me.

Would these guys have gotten into the same trouble if they were with Fran the entire time? To me I see these kind of guys Fran has been bringing in and thinking, WOW huge potential. Gravy if us fans can see that, I’m sure the coaches know it’s going to be more of challenge to get these guys ready to play. However, I feel more confident that these guys that Fran is going to probably let his own children be around, will mature. If they won’t they’ll be gone so fast. And the gravy would be seeing these guys that naturally have more talent than what we even saw last year in several position groups playing to their potential.

I remember Fran saying he only wanted to take one year transfers if they are future pros. I’m guessing this also means taking some questionable character kids who are also future pros

Again, Fran is not a miracle worker or a saint. He is a football coach.

These are guys that have not lived up to their potential, that have serious red flags.

If they do not completely buy in, they will take other players down with them. On a young, impressionable team, I'm not sure "veterans" like this are the best potential role models.
