Class of 2023 WR Johntay Cook (TX) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (5/1/25)

are there players that will have to leave to make the math work on these recent signings?

No the woman judge has already told the NCAA that she wouldn't sign the agreement unless all current scholarships are honored.

Who cares? If that happened, then the team had a pretty good year and he did his job.
He's already played two years at Texas. If he had a great year, next stop might be the NFL instead of the portal. Not sure he's majoring in school.

Endorphin release accomplished
Hittin' that portal

He appeared in 7 games as a Freshman and 4 last years. He has 16 catches for under 300yds and two TDs in two yrs.

In other words he did next to nothing at Texas.

Gill had 2x receptions and yds and same Td’s as SU’s 5th receiver just last year. LQA had 4x the receptions, 2x the yds and tds last year.

He’d have to be unreal, like ACC offensive poy, 1st team all American great.

If Cook is still running a 4.3 40 yard dash. As long as he does the things off the field to allow him to play and he shows scouts he is a changed man. I think he is easily going to be NFL bound. He would put up huge stats if defenses play him 1 on 1 and if they don’t, he will open things up for someone. He has significant advantages athletically that one solid season is enough.

I'd say it is a college football boot camp. There are rules, structure, discipline, Exactly what some of these kids need to succeed.
That camp Fran had last fall was a boot camp atmosphere they walked from South Campus to practice .
I would imagine it was more of a run like we had in basic double time.
They had a bed check. Also their rooms were checked to make sure they weren't a mess.
So yes he had the right atmosphere to bond the players as a team.

Plus they are required to do community service. Get to classes on time. And either I read it or someone told me they are expected to sit in the front rows of their classes.

I had a friend at SU that we took a class together where we sat in the front row. It could get interesting as she was narcoleptic. ;)

I have mixed feelings on some of these new commits, but that being said, they are choosing to play for Fran for a reason. And I’m sure it’s not because we offered the most money.

They know his reputation and background. They could choose many SEC schools that would be far more lenient when it comes to potential future transgressions.

If they weren’t buying into Frans message they wouldn’t be coming here.

So I’m all for giving “non violent“ kids a chance to sink or swim.

Wait, how did I never see this? I just assumed it was some variation of Trevor?! Am I the only one?

Ok, back to Cook. Hope he crushes it here!
I can't take credit for that, someone mentioned it the other day and now I can't unsee it

Based on what i have seen firsthand the WR room is loaded with talent. Young in many cases but there are some amazing athletes at the position. Im a big fan of JRS. Smooth, big, strong and fast. If he can get on the same page with our QBs he is someone to keep an eye on. I have never had a chance to see our LSU QB play in a scrimmage and other than film i have never seen the ND QB play but its obvious they both have talent. With the OL line additions, this texas speedster added to an already stacked WR room my two cents is that we are going to light it up.
