WR Taj Harris is returning

I wonder about the excuse that Gilbert needed half the season to learn strengths and weaknesses. Babers spends 80% of his time with the offense. The offense is basically his design, he knows what he has. The prior OC (Lynch) remained with the staff, moving to RBs. Ferri and Lustig continued (receivers and TEs). These guys go over video and talk among themselves, right?

have you ever coached?

Not sure this can be finessed, but I would love to see Nykeem come back next year. He could serve as the primary punt returner, and perhaps slide into a backup slot role.

Sure. 7 years HS, 5 in D1, 7 NFL, 3 CFL. Which is why I know coaches have team meetings and share info about the players and play designs.
You catfishing us? Lol

Not sure if he will come back for that.

Hendrix/Alford?

Gadsden/Hatcher?

at this point, if we get production from Hendrix, I’ll be shocked. His body just doesn’t seem to be able to hold up. I love his game, but he needs to stay healthy.

Alford will get an opportunity to show he can be the guy.

Seems like a Custis like career is Hendrix best hope

I’ve not seen anything on this forum about Taj’s outbursts causing friction in the locker room. Just fans embarrassed by his poor choices at times. Including me. This is a good opportunity for him to correct that and make sure everyone know he really is ready to be a professional at the next level. Can’t wait to see that.

I love his passion. We need more guys like him. Hes just young i expect him to channel it better next year.

That's where I stand, too. The majority of the staff, including the HC, was back and he can watch film from the last 2 years. I think it's a bit of an excuse to think he needed most of the season to figure out his top WR (as well as other experienced personnel). The Defense played much better in a totally new system than the Offense did in basically the same system. Having said that, based on the end of the season, I am hopeful Sterlin will continue to evolve next season.

Important. As stated head and shoulders the best. Queeley is clearly #2. Who else steps up? Need more weapons outside.
Every time I hear announcers say "they've got some weapons" I think of Bruce Pearl saying it right after his players at UT got arrested and had guns on them.

The only Pearl that I never liked.

Well then you should know that meetings about players and play designs don’t mean jack until you’re out on the field seeing what you have. so assuming he didn’t get to start practicing with the players until Aug1 how long before you could realistically - with your own two eyes - know what a players strength and weaknesses are and where puzzle pieces fit?

There are some other considerations here to when you consider the guy playing slot has been basically a 4 yr starter there and Taj has been a 2 yr starter on the outside. You’re not going to come in and just start moving these guys around day 1.

The emergence of some others may have also facilitated moves to.

Phat — so now your point is that Gilbert learned what he had coming in (from Dino and the continuing position coaches) but it did not mean jack?

Any head coach, any OC new or otherwise, would go through that same process over the course of a season. You have a QB change when Devito goes down, then a second loss with Rex out, then Morgan, and back to Rex. You change the game plan with what the QB can do. You adjust the game plan with what the opposing defense has and what they do. And Dino is as much a part of that as his OC, maybe more.

Minor point, but I suspect some new OCs come in and move their receivers around day 1. Try different routes. See what works in practice.

we assume practice was practice this year.. we were so down on guys, guys didnt throw in the off season like normal, our top QB was gone early. the outside guys we mention one was hurt and the other didnt know the offense, others got moved to D, we lost the RBs so time was lost trying to fugure that out.. Jordan might have been gonna see some run in the slot too and he got hurt.. We clearly didnt have the quick fix on the outside and we had some pieces on the inside so they tried that direction. the offense didnt hold the ball enough to run plays to know what was really working.

on top of that what works in practice changes when the D you are practicing against loses all its pieces too..
