WR

More receivers with talent just means more options. Can rotate in and out for fresh legs. Can easily go from a power set to 4 wide outs. Deep threats means no stacking the box... which just means look out even MORE from #34.

We've gone from EXTREMELY one dimensional to being a threat everywhere on the field. I expect defenses will still load the box at the start of the season until we show on the field we will make them pay for it. But with a stable of talented receivers, it should be a high price to pay.

If we show we can move the ball consistently through the air and ground, and score. The defense can take more chances to create turnovers.

Not sure he is strong enough and tough enough to be the primary receiver but if you rate the WRs on most YAC, I think he is going to be first or second consistently.

I bet he gets the ball on at least 8 reverses in 2022. I expect him to be the target of a bunch of screens. Plays designed to get him the ball with a little daylight.

Jackson and Coop (and maybe Hayes) are going to be the guys to make the tough catches in traffic in the middle of the field. Hopefully a TE too. Maher? Transfer TBD?

I think Queeley will be a guy we throw to on 3rd down, mostly along the sideline.

We don't think about blocking ability when we do these rundowns but it is an important part of the WR position, especially at Syracuse, with Sean Tucker at RB and Garrett Shrader at QB.

Queeley looked like our best blocking WR last year. Guys like Hayes and Cooper might play more than you would think if they prove to be reliable blockers.

Jones looks like he might be a red zone specialist.

Thinking Brown and Alford will probably be our best shot at deep threats but I can't discount Hatcher or Gasdsen. Long and Williams have also looked good in spring practice and had good things said about them.

You just named 12 WRs. :)

I would if I were wrong. You see, I don't wear the Dino glass like you.
Sigh. You said Dinos offense wasn’t as successful with deep throws as Marrone with Nassib was. It’s not true. There’s a lot of issues to have with the offense (esp 2019-2020) - but throwing deep well was not one of them.

Instead of insulting people, you could just say “yeah, got that wrong”

The biggest problem here is people have this compulsion to say “I told you so”. If someone had been proven wrong, you can just let it go. Are we that petty?

I am not concerned about losing Taj either. I saw an immature young man who thought he was far better than he actually was.

I wish him good luck at RU. Hope he has a good season there and finally puts it together. Maybe playing closer to home will help him.

Very interested to see how he does. I believe RU has that kid from Nebraska who can run but can't throw back for another season. And that true frosh they played a lot in their 'bowl game'. He had the worst arm strength I have seen from a P5 QB in a very long time.

Their awful OL has been replaced by a bunch of transfers. We can see if the problem was the old players, the coaches or the scheme.

Taj might have a hard time getting many touches.
Taj may keep his cool a game or two when he’s not getting the ball but sooner or later he’s going to blow his top. Sit back and watch the fireworks next season because his new head coach is a hot head too, unlike Dino.

I actually did NOT say that. That was another poster that I replied to.

Current TE commit David Clement made a comment about his visit this weekend saying Gadsden is a wide receiver/tight end which was really appealing to him.

Thought that was a noteworthy comment.
Coach Anae said last week that one player on the team was playing a combo of interior WR and TE.

I was wondering who he was talking about. Couldn't be Courtney and I don't think Cooper or Pena are close to big enough to play TE.

I bet it was Gadsden.

Gadsden or Alford are the only WR's big/tall enough to maybe be a pass catching TE.

Dan Villari could be a wildcard as TE/FBP kinda guy.
He's a BIG dude, and mobile. 6'4" 237.

Not sure what he will be listed come kickoff but he could easily be 6'5 225lbs. He was a tall skinny freshman. Good size and pedigree to have a hybrid pass-catching role.

Agreed. Seems like he would be great in that roll assuming he can catch a bit. He just has to be willing to play it which I think he should. Not sure if it would help or hurt his future QB chances but it could certainly get him on the field.

Villari is a natural for the FBP role, big time athlete and an animal in the open field.

I’ve felt that Alford and now possibly Gadsden would be used more as pass catching TEs now. I felt it was one of the reasons the team did not hit the portal for a TE. Both have height and speed to be matchup problems with LBs and Safety’s.
