NCAA Elite Eight Games for Sat March 30

We don’t have the team Clemson has.
Come on… a team that can’t shoot against good teams couldn’t use another shooter? It’s not like the D could have been any worse?

Anyways I’m glad Girard got to experience tournament success.

If Oates can make Alabama into a power in short order, I can’t help but think of what he could’ve done at Cuse.
It’s his 5th season there. His first season was worse than Red’s.

UConn-Alabama-Duke ... they are setting this up so we can really hate the final 4 teams.
I was just thinking that. Rooting hard for Purdue at this point. They’re one of those great all time programs that have never won a title, and they haven’t even been to a Final Four since 1980. They competed hard with Indiana for Big 10 titles in the 80s and 90s but could never break through in the tourney. Matt Painter is a likable coach, and their fan base has suffered so many heartbreaking tourney defeats for a long time. I feel for them. Unlike most Big 10 programs.

From 7:56 to 1:30 in the 1st half, Clemson missed 8 shots and made 1 and committed a couple turnovers. Went from up 13 to down 3. Absolute dog fight after that, but always seemed to be down 2-3 possessions the rest of the game.

SEC and B1G have used their football to craft Power Two basketball conference. This year is ACC's last chance to prove we are basketball superior. But ACC has failed. Alabama proves themselves are better than UNC and Clemson. SEC's domination will be more obvious from forwards.

Cuse wasn’t taking him when he left Buffalo because…JB.

Amazing what he did to retool this team from last year to this year, though. I’m sure Big Football money helped with that. Had no idea he had to bring in 9 new players and 3 coaches. As much as I hate seeing Bama do well in hoops, props to Oats for accomplishing what he did with his team.

Still not a fan of him playing Brandon Miller in last season’s tournament after he was known to have brought a gun to a murderer at what would be the murder scene.

Damn shame they have to play UConn…not. Clingan will own pornstache and Pringle.

I posted something similar last night. Other than conference affiliation, there is nothing really unlikable about Purdue - players, coaches, program. They have had some really tough outs, so if this is the time they get over the top (or at least make the final 4) I would be very good with that,

got a S16 and E8 in the 4 years that he played when there was a tourney, 5-2 overall, that's very good, I'd sign up for that

Alabama’s AdjD on KenPom is 102!

Got to score the basketball these days.

My observational theory is that its better to bet on strong offence / bad defence teams, rather than vice versa.

A component of D is always intensity and effort (but one component only) And teams that lack in those areas, have a better chance to improve via ramping up energy, as compared to teams that struggle offensively.

As an aside, with no relevance to the quote -- as I was browsing KP just now, I noted Rutgers has had the #5 and #6 defence in the country the last 2 year. With zero tournaments to show for it. This year they also had the #299 offence... not sure if I have ever seen a split that big in efficiency for a P6 team.

Think San Diego State last year is the one major outlier

They are not power hoops conferences. Neither have won a title since UK in 2012. Let them win something before we go anointing them as bball powerhouses.

Yes, they have boatloads of cash, and, yes, the SEC schools are spending more on hoops, not just UK. But the B1G has been spending big dollars on hoops the last 30 years or more, and they haven’t lit the world on fire. The ACC, Big 12, and the Big East have outperformed them when it counts.

It’s all a hype machine now, and you have CBS, NBC, Fox and ESPN hyping just those two conferences and only ESPN hyping the ACC. It’s going to be harder for the ACC, but let’s not pretend that we’ve become a doormat. Far from.

Easter Sunday, our incredible, improbable comeback vs. UVA in 2016 was on Easter Sunday. I'll call it one if the greatest games in Syracuse history. The comeback vs. Gonzaga on Good Friday night is up there too, what an amazing couple of days.

Jesse mattered more to Syracuse, but Joe mattered more to Clemson.

I'd guess Joe and Jesse wanted nothing to do with the absolute head cases in our sophomore class.
Joe made a great choice. Clemson was an excellent fit for him as he just had to play his game vs playing out of position. Jims ISO O with Joe at the point wasn't a good use of his skills. He did his best but he's not a point G. I wonder what's next for Joe.

Pretty much spot on

UConn has a great system, on both ends, with kids that fit perfectly and play great D. We may not even have a system on either end.
UConn also had a legendary coach retire with the cupboard full and made the difficult decision to fire a coach popular with basketball alumni and went outside the "family" to hire the best coach possible.

I hope Red succeeds, but if he doesn't I really hope our administration will be brave enough to make a difficult decision.
