2017-18 Coaching Carousel

So Cutliff turned down the Tennessee job. Interesting that he's happy coaching at little P5 school and wasn't swayed by gobs of cash to go coach at and SEC factory P5 school.

Tennessee has also contacted Doeren and Brohm. Both of which I'm hearing on the radio said thanks but not interested.

I doubt it but maybe this is the new trend, guys realizing their current situations at little P5 are better than coaching at the factories.

Yep, Cutcliffe is 62-64 years old, he wants nothing to do with that nonsense/ dumpster fire these days. Few more years at Duke, make his 2.5 mil a year and ride off into the sunset.

I think Moorhead is a real good coach be interesting to see how a career Northeast guy takes to the deep deep South, tough place to coach. Good solid hire though, these type moves make sense, guy obviously went to PSU with hopes of grabbing this type of job

Totally agree. I think Cutcliffe had his fill of the SEC at Ole Miss. He told a story about the difference he found between coaching at dook and in the SEC. He said that when it was time to leave for their first road game after he came to dook, he noticed that all the players were getting onto the bus with books and laptops. He said he never saw that at any of his stops in the SEC.

"To recap: When he left UConn for Maryland in 2011, Randy Edsall 1) didn’t take then UConn OC Joe Moorhead with him, instead 2) hiring Gary Crowton, and 3) let go UMD DC Don Brown, instead hiring a guy who was fired by the end of 2011. Edsall is incredible"

i laugh at how many people wanted edsall here. thank goodness

Report: FSU to look at Taggart if Fisher leaves for A&M

Fisher was offered what is believed to be a lucrative contract (conservatively, at least $7 million annually) by Texas A&M on Sunday. He has declined comment on the job publicly and has not informed current players or coaches of his intentions as of Tuesday.

If Fisher leaves, Taggart makes sense as a candidate for FSU. He’s left his last two jobs (Western Kentucky and USF) in better positions than in which he found them, and is currently 6-5 at in his first year at Oregon after the Ducks went 4-8 the previous season under Mark Helfrich. A native of Bradenton, Fla., Taggart has the ties to compete for top recruits inside FSU’s footprint, as exhibited by his current class at Oregon (Warren Thompson, Malcolm Lamar and Isaiah Bolden are four-star recruits from Florida committed to Oregon).

No wonder they are down to Herm Edwards! Who the heck would agree to that arrangement?
That+ they are reportedly only looking at minority candidates (is that racist?), so that also limits their pool some.

That is hilarious. I bet he knew how talented they each were, and figured they'd steal his spotlight.

Tennessee should just hire Tee Martin and Kevin Steele and make them co head coaches.

Offense is all the rage these days. They had several big time defensive coordinators from the SEC in line for this job and chose a NE guy with a great offensive scheme. So glad we have Dino... Defensive HC are boring...

Edit: This is why I think the Chip Kelly hire may be a bit overblown. He was an innovator, but now there are many of them, and defenses have caught up. While at OU, Kelly was unable to get past the size and speed of SEC defenses to win a title, despite being ahead of the curve. Not sure he will have nearly as much success at UCLA as he did at Oregon. Should be interesting though.

For sure. I never got trying to out Saban Saban.

He's an outlier of sorts. A meticulous control freak, who basically credits a bulk of his success to being a relentless recruiter. He's kinda transcended being a defensive HC in a way.

Check this out: Saban casts a national recruiting net with an army of assistant coaches, recruiting analysts and support staffers, and the operation is only getting more sophisticated and specialized. This season, Saban will employee eight recruiting analysts, and they're far from lackeys and errand boys. There is plenty of brainpower in the room. One analyst, Dean Altobelli, is a former Rhodes scholar candidate and a graduate of Yale Law. Alabama's new assistant athletic director for football is the former vice president of player personnel for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Chasing Bear: Nick Saban is second to no one in recruiting, not even Bryant

this is obviously what an open checkbook does for your program.

Some coaches have great situations and would be nuts to leave simply for more money. There is a reason some of these places need to offer huge contacts - they have unrealistic expectations and you will get fired!

right, syracuse is a quality of life program for coaches who want to know they will be employed if they can sustain some consistency. Great example is Tom O'Brien. If his hubris didn't get in the way he would have remained HC of BC forever. Guy won 8-9 games per year and they bowled.

A LOT of coaches are going to get raises and extensions thanks to the Tenn lynch mob
