I think Clawson is an excellent coach, but he's probably a bad match for his philosophy or rebuilding. Don't know if he'd get enough time to do what he did at his other stops.

I think the only candidate that Tennessee has a reasonable chance with and that the fan base won't defecate on is Tee Martin. Or Phil Fulmer.

Nc State wasn't a gut job rebuild though. OBrien handed him a team that went 9-4, 8-5 and 7-5. Doeren's zenith is 8-5; right now 8-4. Too parley that into Tennessee is something else. 11-2 I could understand, but 8-4? Amato and then OBrien both had better overall records at State than Doeren did.

If I was a Tennessee fan I'd be trippin mad but seriously those yoyo's are getting exactly what they deserve. These schools are so unrealistically full of themselves they are going to implode. It's karma at it's best really.

The off season nowadays are becoming popcorn entertainment, I'm starting to love it. Dino could probably go 8-4 and get just about any job he wanted short of Alabama.

right, syracuse is a quality of life program for coaches who want to know they will be employed if they can sustain some consistency. Great example is Tom O'Brien. If his hubris didn't get in the way he would have remained HC of BC forever. Guy won 8-9 games per year and they bowled.

IDK. The AD, DeFilippo (who loved to say, "I'll add a ____ team when Florida State adds a hockey team"), was not exactly a humble, shrinking violet either. I think Boston was too small to have both of them in the same city.

I must say this is a fun thread this year. Tennessee, FSU, ASU and it's going to get even better in a few days.

A few of these schools are going to buy $25-60 million turkeys.

If we finished 8-4 curious how the Dino situation would have worked out. As everyone can see, we cannot compete with the real big money teams at this point. It's irrelevant trying to extend because end of day we can't compete with the big boys. We have to sell our lower expectations as a reason to keep a coach happy.

If we went 8-4 this year Dino would have been getting these same offers and possibly consideration for more absurd roles like replacing Jimbo etc.

Beating Clemson and going bowling comfortably after 2 years on the job checks off a lot of reqs for top 20 coaching jobs. Especially recruiting at the level dino already does for a smaller northeastern school.

This offseason coaching carousel is a perfect example of why Syracuse will never be able to keep a successful coach unless they truly want to be here. If head coaches from some of the top football programs in the country are being poached, then Syracuse stands no chance. Here's hoping that Dino is successful and that he really wants to be here, otherwise we will be searching for a new coach again in a couple years.
