Sanchez has crazy talent and is a great power hitter but he has gotta be the laziest catcher Ive ever seen this side of Mike Engelberg.

Well the things Kaiser mentioned in his post, and a multitude of little things I've noticed from him behind the plate this year.

There is general lack of urgency for just about every hustle play there is for a catcher... pop ups, blocking balls in the dirt, finding balls in the dirt, chasing down passed balls. Also he is a poor base runner.

My wife loves watching baseball w me because its the only sport I can watch without devolving into a maniac, but Sanchez tests my patience every now and again. Haha

This is the same reply I gave to Kaiser:

Yankees manager Joe Girardi and Gary Sanchez said they were on the same page as far as Sanchez' trouble blocking pitches and his failure to run hard to first base. Girardi said he was not lecturing Sanchez, telling him in the dugout that he shouldn't get down over his three hard outs and advising the catcher on how to block balls better. Girardi also said that Sanchez was told not to run hard to first to protect a tweaked groin. At one point, Girardi told Sanchez to smile.

It could very well be that Joe has told him to take it easy and hold back a bit so as not to incur another injury...the Yankees have had enough of them lately, and losing your starting catcher would be a huge blow...Also, name a catcher that was a good base runner, they just typically don't have the speed...

He's probably through until 2019. I would imagine that bad an injury would take a year to rehab.

Heard on the radio this morning...He will basically be off his feet for 2 1/2 - 3 months...then about 6-8 months, at least, of rehab...

Booger McFarland apparently had the same injury and he said he was down for 2 1/2 months and it took about 6 months of rehab after that...

while that is the Yankee PR machine at work, the fact of the matter is Pena works with the catchers, and Sanchez's overall laziness had to be what drove Girardi to point where he had to give him a 'pep talk' right then, or whatever Rizzo told Girardi to say to the press...as it was all caught on film.

its a pattern with Sanchez for sure, I do believe the groin and no running to 1st base is the truth, fwiw.

when he gets crossed up or the pitcher misses a spot...its a merry go round on the bases...

He's still a much better defensive catcher than advertised when he was coming up through the system, with a better than average throwing arm. Unless he regresses significantly, he will be behind the plate for 120 or so games for the foreseeable future.

exactly.

and these are things that can be worked on.

blocking the ball can become a reflex if he just puts the work in.

but that bat, yeah, we will take a few lapses behind the dish...

oh and by the way...

whose coming with me to Chicago to take that electrical box or whatever, rip it off the wall and shove it up someones arse who built and still works at Comisky or whatever the flock they call it now...

im seriously pissed at this.

I was much 'happier' when I thought he just hit the wall.

Geez man, I appreciate hustle and effort as much as the next guy, but shouldn't you know better than to run into a wall/fence chasing a foul you can't get to? I had a (basketball) player once who took a dive into the stands to save a basketball during a twenty point game. He got banged up but was eventually okay. So then I explained to him the difference between intelligent hustle and "stupid hustle." And I told him, "It's just a simple out of bounds turnover. Be smart. We can always get the ball back, we can always get a basket back, too. But if you get hurt, we can't get you back." :noidea:

I hope they don't put Judge into the HR Derby. Everyone comes out of that with their swing in a funk for the next month or more. Jason Giambi was never the same.
