2018 Pro Day March 19

if you are going to double down on the 5 tenths thing, all you are going to do is discredit what you are claiming. I believe you have a friend high up in an NFL organization and I believe Syracuse has a rep for having a fast track. But it is simply outside the bounds of reasonableness that Syracuse's track is FIVE TENTHS of a second faster - a full half second faster - than the combine. That is so ridiculous as to be a laughable assertion. Either your friend misspoke or you misunderstood, because there is simply no way that is true.

Put another way, if it were true Syracuse would be having guys put up 4.1's and 4.2's, and that just isn't happening.

Mo Jackson did put up 4.18 and there were a bunch of 4.2 & 4.3's in the past...

That said, I think he's trolling you.

Field turf is Field turf, pretty sure it is the same "speed" as the rest of them

Easy killler - clearly it was a typo, sorry you didn’t get the sarcasm which I thought was extremely clear, especially the hahahaha part.

All of our players have historically run faster here than the combine - look at AET, etc.

Typically these numbers are scaled by teams depending upon, school, situations, etc.

Usually ours have been five HUNDREDTHS of a second faster than combine numbers.

All that said, they really judge tape a lot more than the underwear olympics these days. The numbers may make a team go back and look at more tape and ask questions like “did this guy play this fast?” “Did the DL keep the OL off the LB enough, etc”

Eh what did Jerry Rice run a 40 in shorts timing wise? Fundamental difference between game speed and dash speed. We do clearly lack the former. Latter is irrelevant

I was stunned Zaire was left out of the combine. Thrilled to see him do well yesterday. I'm biased- he's one of my favorites both on and off the field - but I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up as a steal for some team.

I was a bit too but its just hard for a 6 ft or less backer to make it these days. It just is. You have to be extra special again, like cam lynch who is Actually 5'11". If Zaire was 6'2", he would probably go top 3 rounds. Height and playing in space , covering will hold him back but hell , its Zaire and he will probably overcome it!

Ben Boulware says hi.

Syracuse is known as a “fast track” school. I have friend very high up at a NFL organization that can vouch for that. Most players run faster at their pro day than the combine, usually by 5 tenths of as second or greater, hence the disaster if a player chooses to run and run slower than the combine.

i think most pro days are hand timed.
i've researched 40's quite a bit.and for sure all 40's arent created equal.
There are FAT (fully automatic times) times which are almost never used cause everyone is slow.
there are hand times which are always the fastest.usually for track events they add 0.5 secs to a hand
timed race like the 100m to convert it to fat...thats where the .5 second calc comes from.
but since 40's are almost never fully laser, its not a safe calc. imho.

then there are mixed times which use a hand start and a laser finish , which is what they use at the
nike combines. if you look at recruits hudl pages , if its a nike time, its verified and in green with
a checkmark...most recruits dont use these times unless they're good.ive seen some profiles where the only thing verified is height and weight lol! i was at one where saquon barkley ran. he ran a 4.61... so 40's arent everything. btw you shud have seen the sad looks on all the "fast" kids there that ran
4.7x's. everyone thinks they're gonna pull a 4.3

i think alot of our guys have run slower than advertised, but i would find it hard to believe our cohort is any different than any other school. its just like making the players a little taller and a little heavier on paper. makes everyone look more impressive.

ive never gotten a good handle on what they do at the nfl combine.its pretty hush hush.they come up with 3 times then somehow munge them together and spit out a time.i think its semi automatic, and they cant really change it,
so the measurements can be compared over different yrs.

they are really only useful if you're comparing apples to apples, a good hand timed 40 is reliable, but some of the times recruits post dont really pass the smell test, but if you look fast, everyone knows ur fast, its hard to question them.

probably most useful for wr's and dbacks.
i think shuttle times are more reliable, and they are always consistent (hand timed).so you're always comparing apples to apples.and its a more useful measure.

btw the team ran laser 40's a few weeks ago, and i heard there were 1/2 dozen 4.4x's in the group.
dont know who ran what tho.

I know what you are saying, but I don't think Ish's production was the reason for our poor records.
