The structure of the contract was wierd.
Yankees wanted him to take a small salary year one to keep them under the luxury tax and it was heavily backloaded. Most likely had a significant deferred money as well.

Don’t blame Darvish.
Oh, I’m not blaming anyone.

Just posting what I’m seeing as I avoid sportscenter.

Would like to stay under the cap.

Another arm is always good.

The AL is loaded.

Yanks still the 4th best team IMO...

3rd best.
Houston
Cleveland
New York

Then Wild cards come are Texas, Seattle, Angels, Red Sox next year.

Seems weird that a small first year would matter. It's all getting paid to him anyway.

I’d imagine it more he thinks he’s better than 7 for 160.

He’s not...

Gotta think this will help define some of the rest of free agency.

Seems late to have so many top FA’s unsigned, no? Not sure why... maybe because the ‘19 FA crop is supposed to be loaded?

Combination this year sucks, Boras has them all, the luxury cap is feared by a few and next year will be huge.

I’m hoping this makes DLsbury look cheap.

If the redsux bastard would just lift his no trade, we could get something done...

We will eat a half of 3 for 68.

Or..

Add a top prospect and it's a third...

My favorite Yankee is Jacoby. He is an example of how FA has gotten out of control. He is one of Cashman’s few mistakes. I don’t a single Red Sox fan that was upset when he signed with the Yankees.

It's a bad, no VERY bad signing.

It's the only time he lost his cool.

Robby Cano could've been Jeter on steroids...if I may.

A 3000 hits guy with 400 HRs...and a Dominican hero in NYC.

And he took the $$$ and went to Seattle.

So Cash throw the $$$ in his face, says your about as good as this guy...and signs DlLsbury.

Asinine.

That’s a lot of Fenway booing for fans that aren’t upset.

They don’t like anyone going to the Yankees. Even if it’s someone draining the Yankee payroll with little production and their replacement is much better.

He got some boos but a lot of cheers his first game back.
It was nothing like Damon, Clemens, Boggs.
No Red Sox fan wanted him back at that price.
He wasn’t hated anything close to others.
He got the any Yankee at Fenway booing before the fanbase has gotten apathetic like it is now. They cheered Jeter on the way out.
You nailed it in your 2nd paragraph.

Somebody get down there and help him pack. :)
Doorman is sorta right...I just moved him out.

He’s free to go get his stuff...at the bottom of the East River.

No wonder Girardi got out.
Need a ‘coach’ on the diamond...and NOT the catcher, or at least not ‘every other pitch Sanchez’ to talk.

Nettles was the King of this.

He knew whenit was time and what to say once he got there.

He saved Munson’s knees a trip and Thurm punching a pitcher out on the mound...100s of times.

The best one back in the day was supposed to be Bobby Richardson. Whitey Ford was accused of roughing up the ball all the time, but the umps could never find anything on him. Whenever he really needed a strike, Richardson would signal to Yogi or Elston Howard to throw the ball back to him rather than directly to Ford. Richardson would rub the ball in his glove and give Ford a bit of a pep talk and then go back to 2nd base. What no one knew at the time was Richardson was the one who had the emery board glued to the heel of his glove and when he was rubbing up the ball during his "pep talk" he was roughing the cover so Ford could grip it.
