According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Seattle will be covering most of the money remaining on Encarnacion’s contract — approximately $9.25MM in salary this season, plus a potential $5MM buyout of a $20MM club option for the 2020 season. Right-handed pitching prospect Juan Then is headed to the M’s in the trade, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports, and Nightengale adds that Then is the only player being acquired in exchange for Encarnacion.
