2020-2021 NY Knicks Season Thread

Rumors starting to circulate in NBA circles this summer Devin Booker forcing a trade to the Knicks.

Booker was a top client of Leon Rose, WWW close ties to Kentucky, and Knicks assistant Kenny Payne recruited Booker to Kentucky.

Great article by Julius -got big play pre-game last night.
The 2,000 in MSG have showed loud appreciation -can't wait to hear 20,789!
How fortunate that the Knicks didn't find a deal that traded Julius away-
He's the core of the team -now the Knicks need to keep Captain Julius and build around him.

Knicks are an amazing 19-18, and Thursday start a tough road trip to begin 2nd half of the season.

After this great start, what's your perspective/expectations for the rest of the season?
I’m no NBA sensei -just throwing this stuff out there to reel in opinions from you guys who have a lot more perspective than me! Some thoughts:

Need Taj back ASAP from sprained ankle. Noel has been great, but won’t last long playing 40”.
Need Mitch back ASAP from broken hand –same reason as above.
Do Knicks trade for a center before 3/25 to fill need? If make a trade, seems most likely(?)

Hope DRose returns from covid protocol Thurs –needed back ASAP.

With Elf back, DRose PT needs to go back down to max 20-25” for him to last the season.

Julius -understandably looks gassed at times. Like to see max PT 35” to keep his motor strong. Knicks can’t afford to lose Julius!

RJ –just keep doing what you’re doing RJ. Making a nice soph step up –may have a long-term Dynamic Duo at forward with Julius.

Mitch –improvement this year (mainly by avoiding fouls), still only 22 with more development expected. Do the Knicks roll with Mitch long-term or seek a star center?

IQ -much better than projected but rookie ups/downs, and cold coming in the last couple games. Does IQ hit the rookie wall, or bounce back again and finish the season strong? Will IQ eventually be the Knicks’ starting PG, or move to the 2 for a star PG? A keeper either way.

Obi –dunno just gotta keep watching to get a better clue. Rooting for Obi -hope he's not Knox The Second. Kind of look like twins the way they move.

Elf -really pretty good lately. At 27, is Elf moving beyond being primarily a defender? Like Obi, another guy I’m not yet sure about but if Elf can consistently play at his recent level/continue improving, maybe he should stay a Knick for awhile.

Ntilikina –yet another enigma of a guard. Lately playing with confidence and hitting 3’s. Great asset when needed on D to lockdown opposing guards. Frank is still only 22 –unless Elf keeps elevating his game I’d probably include Elf vs Frank in a trade.

Bullock/Burks –fill their role almost interchangeably, both age 29, OK till Knicks find an upgrade.

Knox -3rd season, has his Kentucky coach now, shows flashes but still a disappointment. At this point if the Knicks move Knox I’d worry far less about later regret than if they trade Ntilikina. Frank is good when his head is screwed on straight.

Thibs -I Kneel At Your Altar -comedy for anyone who read all this ;)

This Knicks team is fun to watch develop, and fascinating to consider moves Leon Rose may make before 3/25 –if he should(?) Leon must not be sleeping well –big decision! Good chemistry and many players still developing. Maybe the development continues, and the current roster can finish strong, get some playoff experience, then the Knicks have a great draft. Would be nice if new guys mesh with the team as fast as DRose did.

Look forward to more KNICKS W's starting Thurs!

Resounding win today!
Missed the game -just watched nice highlights.
Good to see IQ's floater dialed in again, and a productive 33" today.
Elf out again with hamstring, DRose still no set return date, and IQ has a sore groin.
If Elf regularly sits with the hamstring the rest of this season, Frank better make good with what could be his last opportunity to prove he belongs.
Rose and WWW have 5 games to determine if this team is their finished product for this season.
Interesting to see if the Knicks make a deal for a PG and/or possibly a center before 3/25.

These next 7 days are YUGE. Really really really want the dub tonight.
Nets spend big $ on their roster -a win by the young upstart Knicks would be sweet!
Nets still without Durant -that will help!

CRAZY game!
W was there! -missed too many shots inside 4"!
Q2 Obi/Frank lineup was BAAAAAD!
Give Knicks credit for playing hard to make the comeback and put a big scare in Nets after digging big hole.
Mitch may have made a difference.

It's hard to beat Brooklyn's Big 3 of Harden, Kyrie, and the refs.

Kyrie stepped on a player's foot multiple times and got the call for it. But James Harden taking six steps, hopping, stopping because he knew he traveled, then being allowed to pass the ball off was absolutely absurd.

These Knicks are good though.

What is the official ruling on that last play?

Nothing posted yet for last night's games, but it will be interesting to see the explanation:

What is the official ruling on that last play?

Ref said that he saw Randle spot up, Kyrie get a piece of the ball, but Randle intentionally bounce the ball after Kyrie got a piece of it, so he thought the travel was the right call.

Honestly, I don't think people care about that call as much if Harden and Kyrie don't get treated with kids gloves so badly.

Refs were bad-
but IMO if the Knicks made shots in the last 4" those calls could have been irrelevant.
Must have been 3-4 consecutive open 3's missed around the 3" mark.
Great comeback regardless, with improved D after giving up 67 in 1st half.

Concerned about Noel, may be hurting? Nearly invisible in his 20".
Also concern about Obi not showing development. Air-balled a 3, and still looks lost.
If Frank made some shots to go with his D, could have been star of the game.

Nets remain formidable without KD, but vs top teams the Knicks need to be at 100%.
Mitch and DRose could have made the difference for a W. Elf too.

Love to know what a game like this has mgt thinking regarding the trade deadline.

Yeah I don't know why Noel only played 20 minutes. It's a layup line with Gibson "protecting" the rim. Burks was particularly bad in the fourth yesterday. So many bricked open looks.

That 1st half was just plain AWFUL -
Drove me crazy watching the Nets run the same stuff repeatedly for layups/dunks!
Looked like another 30pt loss like vs Bucks -the comeback showed good character/resolve.

Another good test tonight. Maybe DRose returns? Needed!

Back to back road games against the two best teams in the east and they both came down to the wire. I know they weren’t wins but we can play with the big boys.

Wonder if after these 2 games mgt thinks getting Mitch/DRose back is enough to get W's vs top teams, or they want to add a player before 3/25. Unsure what I'd do.

If Obi doesn't step up to earn more PT, will be a long 2nd half of the season for Julius -he was gassed.

Team continues to show a toughness and resolve that I like!

Obi is becoming a little troublesome, thank god hes not starting as per crunners wishes.

if they shake up the bottom of the roster a bit thats fine, but im ok with this team and a healthy mitch and DRose.

doesnt 7-10 have a play-in playoff series or something?

im ok with that.

Obi and Knicks Mgt = VERY fortunate-
Imagine Obi's current lack of production in the following scenario:
-Julius traded before season to start the "ready" Obi.
-IQ wasn't the unexpected revelation he's been as a Knicks' late 1st round pick.

The Obi pick, mostly under the radar so far, would be getting MUCH more "attention"!

RJ avg 14 & 5 last year and took more shlit than Obi has at 4 & 2.
