2021-22 Yankees Off Season / Spring Training ...

TAMPA, Fla. -- One day after Aaron Judge expressed his desire to discuss a contract extension prior to Opening Day, Hal Steinbrenner made it clear that the Yankees plan to do exactly that. Steinbrenner said Wednesday that while finishing out the roster for 2022 remains the priority during this shortened Spring Training, the talks with Judge’s representatives will “happen soon.”

I hope the trade talks with Oakland result in a pitcher or two sent to the Bronx.

Notice the team friendly below market contract Olson signed with the Braves (AAV just $21M).
I think he's crazy but it's his hometown team and that's where he wants to be. Now watch the Yankees wildly overpay Judge on the extension. Compare the two.

7 Years $224 Million. Brings him to age 38

When healthy, they seem to love him. Must be the walks.

But he's only played over 100 games twice in his career. So maybe 4 out of 7.
he does walk. have to do the math to figure out the same amount of hits, plus walks and a 220 avg.

Rosenthal: Why the Yankees were willing to take on all $50 million owed to Josh Donaldson

It's behind the paywall, but here is an excerpt:

While Donaldson certainly is an injury risk, he played in 155 and 135 games, respectively, in baseball’s last two full seasons, 2019 and 2021. And while Urshela, thanks to his good hands and strong arm, often passed the eye test defensively, Donaldson was the better defender at third last season according to two leading metrics, Defensive Runs Saved and Outs Above Average (Donaldson was around middle of the pack, Urshela was near the bottom).

So long Louis. Enjoy the sunshine and southern california.

So, he's not playing first today. I was hoping that he'd be involved in a deal for an A's pitcher. Hopefully the guy they got from SD is decent.
Just a kid, overall 34th pick in 2020 draft.

So Yanks got nothing for Voit. Pure money dump, taking back a low-A 20 year old SP. 2 years ago could have gotten substantial value for him.

13th ranked prospect in SD system via Keith Law:
Age: 20 | 6-4 | 220 pounds
Bats: Right | Throws: Right
Drafted: No. 34 in 2020

Lange has huge stuff and a workhorse build, but showed a lack of command in limited time in 2021 and was dealing with a knee injury that didn’t require surgery. He’d been up to 100 as an amateur with a chance for an above-average slider and changeup.

Not nothing. They got a potential rotation starter, or at worse, probably a very serviceable bullpen arm.

Voit wasn't exactly a big trade target. He's got a decent bat even for 1B and DH, but his defense is subpar, he's on the wrong side of 30, injury prone, and he's already getting $5m+ a year.
