It was like they blamed Orsillo for the terrible product they put on the field. A truly terrible move. Dave is a pro and okay but Don is much better.

I think the ideal broadcast booth would include a young advanced-stat/fangraphs type paired with an old-school former player. You need characters with well-defined roles; unlike John and Suzyn, who echo each other's dinosaur takes.
On the other hand, a single person booth with someone like Vin Scully is perfection.

Padres and Orsillo’s booth was ranked first by fans.
The Mets booth which I said is good was ranked 3rd. Mets booth is good but not the best.

They didn’t fire Orsillo.
They didn’t extend his contract.
They also did it because Tom Werner is an idiot and a guy who made deals with roseanne and Bill Cosby.
Cohen is not as good as Orsillo. One has been hired to do national games and have a higher profile and the other hasn’t.
Orsillo lost his job because Werner wanted to put his stamp on the NESN booth not because he sucked.
He immediately got a 5 year contract to do Padres games and basically got Dick Enberg into retirement before he wanted too.
You said surveys would show Cohen in a landslide I found a survey that showed otherwise.
If he was that good they would have extended him. And fyi I think Don is top 5 but he's not Gary. I dont need to. There are other rankings where is Gary is ahead of him. You found one that fits your argument. Put a poll up here if you'd like.
Find me a poll where Gary is above Don. I would like to read it.

Also one is employed to do postseason and national games and the other guy stuck doing just Mets games.
I'm sure that you realize that New York, being as large as it is, would get extra points from sites that want viewers. Much like these rating services do with hoop and football recruits. At the end of the day, it comes down to each person's taste. For me, no one could come close to Sean Mcdonnaugh if he was still doing baseball full time.
That was just the first page of results. Gary doesn't want to do national games. Dont you think networks have tried to get him?
Sean is one of my favorite announcers ever. It does come down to taste. I am just saying if you polled 100 people who follow baseball and announcers and asked them who the best announcer Gary would win hands down.
What? Why would you say that? Do you know that he has turned down national games? If you are in that business, you want to do national games. I find that a really strange thing to say. Perhaps his style doesn't fit a national audience while he works in NY. And in New York, it fits theirs. I refuse to believe he would say, no, I don't want to work playoff games. I would rather watch on tv from my couch. Plus, I don't like money. It would be very strange indeed if he was offered a national game and he turned it down. Very strange.
I don't want to get in to this thing but that is not true. No one would win hands down. I follow baseball and watch more baseball than just about everyone I know. I wouldn't say that. I watch the Yanks, the Sox and the Mets every night. And I get to look at a different out of town game on the MLB network. Now, and this is a joke, I might be biased against the Met broadcasting team because Ron Darling beat my Legion team 2-1 in the Mass quarter finals in 1978. I still hold the grudge.

Cohen would take a job with Turner, Fox or ESPN to go with his Mets job if he was offered it. They don’t want him.
How do you know that he would? Sny is paying him a ton. Fyi Gary grew up a huge Mets fan. He loves the Mets. He loves doing Seton Hall games. Maybe he's content where he is. With some of the crap they have at Espn and Fox. You don't think they made a run at him? He's also has done Mlb playoff games and NCAA tourney games on the radio.
I think we can all agree that Vin Scully wins all time hands down. There are worse pitchers to lose to than Ronnie.
We had a runner on 3rd in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th. All with two outs or we would have squeezed in the tying run.
If he was offered a national job he would take it.

He could keep his Mets gig and get to do national games like Darling does with the Mets.
He hasn’t been offered a national gig. Orsillo does national games for Fox and TBS as well as the Padres.

Cohen is a good announcer. You can call him your top guy. It’s subjective but not a fact.
Why would he do MLB playoff games on the radio and NCAA tourney games and not want to do the same games on tv. Which pay a lot better . That makes no sense to me.
