2021 USMNT Thread

Get him on the Gold Cup roster and cap tie him. Ball is in Berhalter's court. It's annoying that he didn't cap time Musah who is a clearly superior player to at least Yuiell.

Who was that American kid from Jersey who ended up choosing the Italian team and made a few starts in friendlies but then got his career wrecked by injuries? Hopefully that's a lesson for these kids...

Rossi.

I think this is a vastly different situation though. Rossi grew up in a household that lived and breathed calcio. He represented them from the time he was a young teen and always spurned the US calls.

Busio has never indicated using his Italian passport for anything more than making a professional move abroad and he's represented the US at multiple youth levels.

I actually wasn't trying to rev up fear by posting the tweet, but to give a nod to how much potential there is with this 18-23 year old group.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Busio's agent put that out there because he's trying to force PT in the Gold Cup, who knows...

I think it was Danielle de Rossi.

Maybe the wrong Rossi ...
Daniel de Rossi has his own lore in US Soccer history. He hammered Brian McBride with an elbow in the crazy 9 men v 10 men draw in the World Cup!

de Rossi was the was Roma captain after Totti who was arguably one of the greatest Roma players of all time. If de Rossi had been eligible to play for the US and we lost him, that would be a huge deal.

And here's the qualifying schedule:

September 2021
  • @ El Salvador September 2nd
  • vs Canada September 5th
  • @ Honduras September 8th
October 2021
  • vs Jamaica October 7th
  • @ Panama October 10th
  • vs Costa Rica October 13th
November 2022
  • vs Mexico November 12th
  • @ Jamaica November 16th
January 2022
  • vs El Salvador January 27th
  • @ Canada January 30th
  • vs Honduras February 2nd
March 2022
  • @ Mexico March 24th
  • vs Panama March 27th
  • @ Costa Rica March 30th

September and March are not going to be fun months for our players. We really can't be going into March needing points. Gotta wrap up our spot in January.

Yeah… trying to grind out results in March wouldn’t be ideal.

Do we know the the U.S. venues and the @Canada venue?

No - but you have to assume that Canada will either be playing in Vancouver or Toronto.

If it's Vancouver, hopefully we can do a combo of San Jose/Seattle/Portland, if it's Toronto, a combo of Chicago/Columbus/Red Bull Arena/DC/Chester PA will hopefully be our venues. That would keep travel time to a minimum.

Mexico in November... I predict Columbus.

If we aren't qualified by the holidays, I'll be disappointed. Our two toughest matches (Azteca and @costarica) are in 2022.

Not US but still soccer

Hammer dropped!

Honestly they shouldn't be allowed to have fans when we travel their either given it was vs us they were sanctioned for. We all know that would hurt them financially too much.

A better message would have been to start them at -6 points in the octo. Teams are used to playing without fans.

I like that they are losing money they could have used to fire Tata and hire a coach that better suits them!

How about a punishment for throwing crap at our players??

(if this rumored squad is true...) Mexico's bringing heat to the Gold Cup.

Nice opportunity for quite a few players on our squad to make a name for themselves.

Yep- lots of guys with a chance to make a strong case for inclusion in qualifying.
