2021 Yankees Season

I fully support robot umps. There will be one unfortunate consequence. The value of certain catchers will decrease. Even those who think analytics have ruined the game must appreciate that advanced metrics have verified the skill of pitch framing. At this point, pitch framing is seen as a more important defensive skill than pitch blocking and throwing out runners. Suddenly, this skill will go away, and some catchers will find themselves with little to offer teams.
Too bad. Get the calls right. Oh, and there is another side to that street. The Red Sox got Connor Wong from the Dodgers in the Betts trade. he has a good arm and can hit. Biggest drawback, he is terrible at framing. The best catcher in the upcoming draft is a poor framer. It works both ways.

My take as a Sox fan...

Sox are playing over their heads...but only slightly.
Yankees are way underperforming.

As things currently stand, the Sox are WAY ahead in coaching and team building. The longer the Yankees don't make moves in those areas, the better for my team. That gap is way bigger than the talent.
I don't think the Sox are playing over their heads at all. I wrote somewhere else, for a really good team, they have more flaws than you see in a good team. One of those flaws can be fixed in about a month if and when Sales come back. Also Tanner H. My hope is that they can get a cheap lead off guy because you can't have .100 hitters hitting lead off. They need at least another reliever , maybe two. Their losing relievers are terrible. LOL I just realized that I am on the Yankee board and not the mlb board. I'm sorry guys.

Yeah, like I said, I want robot umps.

The end of pitch framing will hurt some guys’ WAR and help others.

Duran might be the leadoff answer.

I'm not sure that Cora will use him in that spot because of his experience. Try to take as much pressure off of him as they can.

Yeah, the Sox don’t appear to be particularly lucky or unlucky (i.e., their advanced metrics are in-line with their actual results). Sale can make them even better.

Not really. The rules are on the books. The game was absolutely being ruined by Spidertec. 7 no hitters by June. Every team has a number of guys hitting less than .200. Cheating is cheating. Always a good time to stop that.

I don't disagree. Let's get rid of the batting gloves, pine tar, and all the rest of the crud hitters use. Get back to old time baseball: they throw it, you hit it; they hit it, you catch it. You know, the way most of us learned how to play. I watched an SD game the other night and 3 consecutive batters came to the plate with no batting gloves. I love it! Go SD!

Spidertac got Cole that insane contract.
His numbers pre-Houston were good not best in the league.
His spin rate has gone down these last starts.
It’s why teams should be pissed these changes happened mid season.

I'm too lazy to look it up but I'm almost positive I posted about hesitating to pay Cole since it was clear he learned from Verlander and Morton about the career revival sauce. Cole is Giambi 2.0.

I hate this team, reminds me of the Yankees in the 80's. Not sure what the fix is at this point other than to burn it down and start over.

I wouldn’t say hate, but not one of the funnest teams to watch. Hard to figure out what it is, but I’m not seeing much fight in them.
Maybe Boone should quit covering for everyone and start holding people accountable.

Now you’re speaking Runner’s language. It can’t just be Kay and Francesa holding people accountable.

Yeah I don't know what it is but I'm just apathetic.

I actually enjoy when the team is forced to climb out of a hole. Every game in July and August feels like so much is at-stake. This has happened a couple of times during this 28 year run of winning seasons. 2005 comes to mind. I might be mistaken, but I believe they were still under .500 at the all star break. They went on to win the division.

I have no idea how this season will turn-out. I am confident they will at the very least, have their 29th straight winning season. I expect the Yankees to play better, but I have no idea if they will catch the Rays or Sox.

Anyone else wonder why the Yankees don’t use an opener when King pitches. He always gives up runs in the first inning and then usually settles down. Maybe if he started against the lesser hitters instead of the top of the lineup it would help him settle in better.
Just a thought.
