2022 NFL Thread

Old Joe Banner wrote an article for a website that has since taken it down... basically saying that the Eagles are the most likely team to get Watson. He named 11 teams, but 9 he said were unlikely. The other two were the Panthers and the Eagles. I'm sure he still has his sources around the league. Also, think Watson will not have as many suitors as he once hoped for, so he'll have to revisit the no-trade clause/destinations.

Here it is...

Depends on how well Wilson plays and what Seattle does with all those juicy draft picks. Seattle knows they're in rebuild mode but they were ticketed for the mediocrity lane anyway. Much of Wilson's success at QB was predicated on his wheels, which were top notch. Once that goes...

Based on Seattle's draft history I wouldn't expect much for them

Today is a beautiful day.

We by far got the better end of that deal. I've said a million times, do anything it takes to get a franchise qb. 2 1st and 2 2nd's a 5th and Harris, Lock and Fant. I'd have given more than that. How many 1st rnd picks people waste for decades and still not find a franchise qb. We had 11 picks in this upcoming draft and plenty of $ to spend in FA. Paton is king around here now. It's all on paper, now accumulate wins, ok Hackett you're up.

In his bad year he had a 65% comp, over 4/1 TD/Int, 7.8 ypa. That would be the best season by a Broncos QB since the last good Peyton year in 2014.
He's definitely a sizable upgrade. You give up two #1s and two #2s and 5th and he better be an upgrade. I don't think he's the same guy that the proponents of this trade think he is. Look at his rushing #s last year. He killed my Eagles over the years by taking off from the pocket on 3rd and 8 or making a throw on the run. That part of his game fell off sharply last year.

Cheap price to pay. Give him the offseason to heal up normal, change of scenery, we're good to go.

I wish your squad well. I like Wilson. He's been top five for a while now. I watched him a lot last year and didn't see the same guy. He clearly is not as mobile as he once was. That has been a HUGE part of his game.

You got a whole let better chance when you have two cracks at it instead of one. They weren't going anywhere anyway. They will also have massive space under the salary cap.

$35 million in cap space now but still need to pay DK and have glaring holes everywhere. AND they've shown they can't draft consistently.

It's not an awful idea to trade Russ but they need a full rebuild, not some retooling.

I saw what you saw, hell all of us did. No matter, we haven't had a real qb since Peyton. Those draft picks and players are almost nothing compared to getting a real qb. I'm going to trust Paton until he proves otherwise. He's off to a hell of a start here.

Clearly looking to channel the Rams. Broncos have an excellent supporting cast to surround Wilson. Won't have to run for his life or do it all himself.

Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. But it beats having little chance to grab the brass ring despite all that talent due to sub-par QB play.

Seattle cashed in their biggest chip, and came away with the tools for a rebuild. I hereby anoint this trade as a win-win.

Seattle extracted a lot of value out of Wilson. They got a nice haul. Why keep him? They went 6-8 with him as a starter and he failed to throw over 260 yards in any of his last 11 starts. They weren't going anywhere with him on the team. They'd be a better team yes but unlikely to be a playoff team because of the glaring holes you referenced. I think picking up all of the draft picks is a very healthy start toward a full rebuild. How else do u fill those glaring holes? Yeah they haven't drafted well but that doesn't mean you stop drafting or don't try to accumulate draft picks. The draft is the lifeblood of any team.

I don't blame the Broncos for taking a shot. Like the saying goes, no balls no glory. The Broncos are putting all of their chips in the middle of the table. I just thought they gave up a ton for a guy a bit past his prime. We'll see.

I’ll root for Denver next year over KC in the west. The AFC is absolutely stacked next year. Whoever wins the conference will have earned it.

Eh it’s way simpler than that. We needed a qb, and Paton stated he knew how important the position was so he went out and got the best available. We didn’t put close to all our chips in. You must value 2 1sts and 2 2nds way more than I do. Track records for 1sts is terrible. Take a look since Von in 2011, and Surtain last year was Paton’s first year here. I could care less about giving up the picks we did. Ask anyone what Wilson would’ve commanded before today. Most had 3 1st and then some.

The track record is kinda irrelevant. The picks are worth what they're worth. Doesn't matter to the acquiring team what the trade partner has done with the picks in the past.

Yeah I get the Broncos need a QB. I think we all see that. I'm just saying that need may have caused them to overpay. JMO.

Three first rounders sounds insane to me. Obviously Seattle couldn't command that level of value or they wouldn't have traded with the Broncos.

The track record isn’t irrelevant because go around the nfl, do the same and get back to me, that was the more overall point. It is what they’re worth you’re correct. We didn’t come close to overpaying lol. Stafford was 2 1sts and a 3rd

Wrong. They could’ve, Wilson chose Denver and told Seattle that’s where he wanted to go and had a no trade clause. It wasn’t a highest bidder scenario.

2 1sts and a 3rd are not the same as 2 1sts, two 2nds, a starting TE and a starting DT. Yeah it's clear I value first and second round draft picks more than you do. You think you're getting Russell Wilson circa 2018. I'm not so sure of that. If he's more like what we saw last season then this trade is not likely to age well. Like I said, I understand why the Broncos did it. It may be a home run. Time will tell.

Who offered three first rounders?

a starting TE and a starting DT
Cmon now, obviously you don’t know our players. They’re pocket change. Seahawks fans will have to google who Shelby Harris is, and I’m happy to get rid of Fant. We have a backup Albert O that did as well or better in games last year, and he blocks and doesn’t go down on first contact. The players involved mattered literally 0. One off year and he’s damaged goods, lol. Not many teams in need of a qb wouldn’t have given up more than what we did for him.
Edit to add; we have plenty of $ for free agency and supposedly a great TE free agency if we wanted to go that route, also we have a ton of picks. Those are serious chips also.

The main value is the draft picks. You may not like Fant but he's clearly a starting TE in the NFL and not like he's had Tom Brady to throw to him. And he's under contract for two more years.

You seem personally aggrieved that I questioned what the Broncos gave up. Just my opinion. I could be dead wrong. I just didn't like what I saw from Wilson this past year.

I named traits that don’t matter who’s throwing to him. Personally aggrieved? Lol. I’m stating my opinion like you are, it’s a sports board and what we do, no? I already stated I agreed with you on I didn’t like what I saw this year, but 1 year doesn’t decide his future at his age. Imo. And I’m glad our gm agrees.

Everything you say makes sense except the part about Wilson still being a franchise Qb

It also seems people are forgetting the value of 2nd round picks in the NFL. Those are very valuable … they aren’t nba 2nd rd picks

If you interviewed all the GM's in the league, how many say he's a franchise qb? If he's not, then our gm is an idiot, which I don't believe he is. Yeah I know what they say about 2nd, and mostly 3rd's as far as value goes. What was Stafford then? Is Wilson less valuable than Stafford when he was traded?

Apparently he’s not .. the trade haul proves his true value … I just think it’s a bad job of evaluation . All it takes is 1 Team Though
