2023-24 NBA Season

Why make the deal now? Sixers could have held out with nothing lost. Conspiracy on a radio show this AM that the league encouraged the deal to get done now so we don't have months of Harden on the bench in street clothes.
I imagine Philly kinda wanted to be done with him at this point/get those picks in house asap.

If the Sixers were going to turn Harden into a good player now, it would have to involve a 3rd party which makes a trade more difficult (since a good team was not looking to trade quality for quality especially for Harden and a non contender was not eager to have Harden and then try to move him). Now the "3rd party" part has essentially been done.

The Sixers today a bunch of smaller cap pieces and additional draft picks -- will make it easier for them to work something out with a non contender.

For example, Pascal Siakam is a UFA at the end of the year, the Raps aren't overly eager at signing him and the Raptors were a mess. He has history with NN. Toronto wasn't going to do Harden for Siakam, without finding a 3rd party first.

Not saying it will be Pascal either (Masai Ujiri and Morey don't seem to like each other)-- could be another quality piece from a non-contender. but getting a piece from a non-contender was going to be hard with Harden involved. Now its easier.

I think that was probably incorrect back then, and also think the competition has improved while the shine has worn off the stars a bit.

They’re probably in the third tier of teams to me.
Who do you have in your first two tiers?

Nuggets, Bucks, Celtics, Suns, Lakers, and Warriors probably. I think from a talent standpoint, the Clippers are probably right there with the Warriors and Lakers but I just don’t like the fit and don’t think Kawhi and PG (and obviously Harden) are in that top 15ish player group anymore.

Fantastic.

If the playoffs roll around and PG and Kawhi are healthy, I can see them as serious contenders, and Harden would help then, but how many years do we need to say if PG and Kawhi are healthy?
Not happening. Westbrook is such a contrast to those other 3 in terms of heart and desire.

And your top 15 would be?

The Clippers 11-game winning streak over the Lakers probably ends tonight. Clips played last night and there’s little chance the league will allow the Lakers to fall under .500. Leonard and George are playing though.
