2023-24 Portal Options

Elijah Fisher. From Canada. We were one of the schools that were recruiting him early but we ultimately didn't even make his top 5.
Hmm, I wonder why…

Sorry, I don’t want to criticize JB now that he’s retired. but the biggest problem in recent years was his lackadaisical recruiting and approach to roster building, as well as his desperate clinging to playing 100 percent zone.

Also, Symir will transfer with picking up JJ. We'll roll out Mintz, JJ and Q as the guard set next year with Taylor (if he doesn't transfer) spell the 2G position a bit
Symir already hit the portal once. If he transfers again he will have to sit out a year. That doesn’t seem like it would be very attractive for him.

nahh he'll get the waiver for immediate especially with his "Coach" leaving

Not if he graduates and is a grad transfer

EDIT: I see I am not the first with this.

I know everyone is holding onto that fact and I hope he does come back/your connections are closer than mine directly to the program but I'm hearing from his coach that he isn't returning...he also basically said goodbye his last game at the Dome
That isn't true. At least not yet. He is talking with his folks and they are weighing their options right now. Not to be coy, but it really seems to be 50/50 at this time.

If Jesse comes back and we add a high end forward to our existing talent...I see no reason we can't take a leap to like a Northwestern this year level and be hovering at the back end of top 25

A Mintz/Starling backcourt is a headache to match up against on its own. I really liked what we saw from Cope, Benny and Brown over the course of the year ( later on for Benny and Cope) too so that's 3 more nice pieces. Benny's 3 pt shot was the most consistent finishing out the year of pretty much anyone.

It's amazing though if we can get Judah and JJ locked in how much potential that could unlock.

It's a numbers game. If Jesse stays, the frontcourt will be pretty jam-packed with Edwards/Hima/Carey/Benny/Brown, plus Patterson who will take up a scholarship even if he doesn't play.

I am curious if they'll try to land a portal big either way. Hima hasn't done anything wrong, but if we're really going to push tempo it'd be preferable to have a C who can spell Jesse for 10-ish MPG better than he can, or at least bring in someone who will push him to get better. I say all that without having a great feel for what Carey will be able to provide though.

Obviously if Jesse leaves you'd hope for Soriano or a similar impact type.

that's he's transferring? SuOrangeSU posted it in this thread as a probability.

The coach thing is just an observation based on the way he carries himself and how he interacts with the players on the court.
So nothing official just speculation regarding him transferring. If it does come to fruition, unless he’s a grad student, he’ll have to sit a year.

If you want to push the tempo it doesn’t matter who you have at the Guard spots if you can’t rebound. The forwards - whoever the may end up being - still have to rebound in order for SU to be successful. And that’s regardless of whether AA is coaching, or if JB were still coaching, or if they give you or I the job. Rebound and everything gets easier.

Oh I’m not saying there isn’t room for improvement on the glass. I think Jesse and Maliq can be the starting bigs on a good M2M SU team, but they aren’t the problem when it comes to rebounding.

Are you saying you’re out on Benny as a starting 3?

I think JJ is guaranteed. So we assume that is one spot filled.

JBA is gone - so that's a net even move scholarship wise.

1. Brown - ?
2. Bell - Appears to be back
3. Taylor - Appears to be back
4. Mintz - Appears to be back
5. Jesse - ?
6. JG3 - ?
7. Quadir - Coming back
8. Peter Carey - ?
9. Hima - ?
10. Symir - ?
11. JBA - Scholarship to William Patterson
12. Benny - ?
13. JJ Starling - still think I’m missing someone but JJ would be #13

? is just not confirmed/rumored.
Just curious where you’re hearing/seeing Bell/Taylor/Mintz all coming back?
