2023 PGA Tour

I was there Tuesday. Put my fingers down in the rough. It was up to the knuckles on the hand. (3rd knuckle?) DeChambeau was 1-2 clubs short on #1 out of the rough.

When I was there in 2013, I remember sitting near a hole and grabbing the grass and trying to pull out a handful of strands, and it was difficult.

Not sure if that makes the rough any harder to play or not, but I had never experienced grass like that.

Rough was tough in 2013, but I think its a bit longer this week (from my TV vantage point anyway)

If he can get somewhere around top 10, the payout would be quite meaningful for him... not quite lifechanging, but very meaningful. (compared to a regular tour player)

Hope he can finish it off with a good round tomorrow.
Six strokes òut of the lead. Paired up with Rory on Sunday. Could be a true Cinderella story.

Question: With all the rain, no doubt the rough is longer than it was at the beginning of the week. Do they cut it back at all for today's round, or do they just leave it be?

Only a tad. They mowed it but only slightly. Still punitive as a mofo

The theory that "LIV Golfers were going to struggle in majors" seemed reasonable, but in the end has proven to be quite flawed.

Sure there are a few LIV golfers that have went there purely to cash in and may never be seen again. But the majority of competitors - especially those under 40 - that is their life nature and that is why they got here. They are going to play hard in LIV even if the format is not very compelling to viewers.

The issue with LIV is the seasonal format and the same players over and over - it makes the competition from event to event not very compelling -- but many of these players I'm sure are still trying to do their best and win, because that is what they do. Most of them are staying sharp.

Furthermore, many players rise up under the pressure - so some LIV players might be even more juiced by the majors.

Let's remember for golfers the biggest events are the majors. This is what they ramp up for. So whether you are in LIV or regular PGA events those are just events to tune yourself up as a competitor.

LIV has also kept their course set-ups for many of their events fairly tough - many events don't have crazy scores. The set-up for most regular PGA tour events is no harder.

Once again a detectable amount of the Rochester crowd (not the majority by any means) starts up with the USA chants after Dechambeau pulls away from Conners on the hole.

So are these guys totally out to lunch? They realize this is the PGA Championship right and not the Ryder Cup? Totally bizarre. Especially when the international is an average non controversial guy like Conners.
