2024 bowl projections thread

Could vs. Couldn't

We define could care less and couldn’t care less on the same page, with the single definition “used to indicate that one is not at all concerned about or interested in something.” We do not put these seemingly disparate idioms on the same page in order to save space, or so that we might cause you pain. We do it because one is simply a variant of the other, and they are used in a synonymous manner.

Yeah, because so many people use it incorrectly.

He has ACC with one team in the playoffs and it's SMU with an at-large bid...

Ooof - things won't be rosey in Charlotte if that's how it goes...

Big12 in same boat with 1 at-large bid in ASU.

He also has UNLV in as the #12 team last at-large... they have 10 wins and 2 losses (us and Boise St) - no top 25 wins. No way they should be in. You gonna play in the Mountain West, you better get a top 25 win or 2 OOC.
Don't know about his playoff picks but I think it is very good news he has us in the Gator with only 1 ACC team making the playoffs. It might now only be a question of Pop Tart or Gator.

I dig it.

I'm with you on that, not too encourage us to get further off track. That said, I really couldn't care less. Cuse to come down to my neck of the woods (FL) is what I want.
Intentional?? ;)

Agree. I dont have stats to back this up but I feel like he's got very good sources with the bowl folks and is generally fairly accurate.

While Jacksonville is a dump, a bowl game against Missouri there would be awesome. I'd much rather play them than South Carolina from a matchup perspective. I think we will fare better.

I really think if it is a good warm weather bowl, against a top opponent, that everyone will play.
Great opportunity to shine in front of those NFL scouts.
If Kyle plays, I would be stunned if Lequint opts out.
Oronde might be the only offensive starter who might opt out no matter what.
Though with missing last year, I think he needs as much tape as he can get.

So, Gator, Pop Tarts or Holiday I think Kyle will decide to play.

Of all the expert bowl projections, who normally has the best idea of what is really coming?
When SU played in the Camping World Bowl that couch burning QB didn't play and still got drafted on Day 2. Don't hold your breath about anybody deciding to play. In this era I assume every starter is sitting out.

I also think that McCord feels like he wants to go to battle with his team one more time.
A good bowl that could heighten his exposure to the NFL would give him the excuse to play.
I also think everyone genuinely wants to play in a meaningful bowl for their teammates and coaches, and especially for Fran.
In that sense, I think this team is a throw back to earlier years.
But we will see.

I wonder if we will start seeing bowl participation written into NIL contracts (it's not pay for play I know... lol). If a team were to have these type of deals it would make them much more attractive to bowls and could generate more revenue for the school/conference.

If I remember correctly, I know a really big if, last year didn’t Georgia play Florida St. in a bowl. I thought Georgia’s players played and fsu’s players opted out. I think Coach Brown is trying to instill a culture like Georgia.

Will Grier was rated between #24-52 going into the draft, with a lot of talk he could go in the first round. McCord is closer to #82-100, looking like a solidly 3rd round pick. Both may end up as 3rd round picks - but their routes to getting there are already very different.

Generally agree though - I’ll assume MvCord is going to sit out and would be pleased to be wrong.

Well, if the house legislation passes which it’s expected to

It will be pay for play directly from the schools.

Got to assume that if the schools are annoyed about it they will likely require this.

Obviously, it has to pass. I’m not sure all of the details so not sure the bowl thing is a possibility.

But I would guess that if it is, they will be requiring it

Why would Allen opt out? As good as he's been this year he isn't really an NFL back.

Lugenbill said today Allen is the best all purpose back in the country. That’s what will make him desirable as a 3rd down back. Great hands, pass blocker and tough runner when a couple yards are needed. Frans even been quoted saying he’ll be playing sundays. I think he makes a roster.

Same. He’s a great third down back in the nfl.

when the judge signs off on the final settlement this spring, it’ll be official. Doesn’t even need the house. Just final court approval.

When that happens schools will be able to do contracts with players and have lots of clauses. I can see bowl games be one of them. But it’ll be up to the schools and players. A big player could negotiate that out.

Fair enough but this year feels different to me. I wouldn't be surprised at all if McCord plays. I could see him wanting to do everything he can to support Fran and the program. I think there is a very tight relationship there. If he doesn't play, I won't be upset with him. Disappointed, yes, but not upset with him personally.

McCord has handled himself so well this year, acting and playing like such a pro. However, if he and most of the other guys come back for one more game and get that 10th, that would be special (especially if it's in Jacksonville or Orlando).

I only play in the games I want to play in. 13 game contracts.

Saturday was the day that I saw NFL potential in LQA. Not that Miami's D is great, but it's loaded with athletes. And Allen outperformed them, particularly in the passing game. By all accounts he's a really strong blocker as well.

I think he's likely an UDFA, but I can at last see him with an NFL future after the weekend.
