2024 bowl projections thread

I can’t see BSU getting in if they lose. No way the good ol boys in the selection room keep out a 3 loss SEC team over a 2 loss Mountain West team.

I think they’ll bounce SMU if they lose as well. These guys want as many SEC and B1G teams as possible and they’ll contort themselves to make it happen.

Yeah we all know the drill but the arguments for inclusion were compelling. It’s too bad really both SMU and Boise State are very good. These other teams had bad losses.

I’ll add… it’s funny that we have a much better win (Miami) than many of the teams that are going to get playoff bids.

Penn State’s best win is against Illinois. Texas has a bunch of wins against teams that were ranked at the time but are not out of the top 25. Etc.

Oh I agree. I just know how these guys operate. We all know.

That is the likely outcome if they lose to UNLV. I am not saying they are going to lose but the Mountain
West Bowl tie-ins are awful. UNLV vs. Boise is a play-in game for the CFP so Brett is picking UNLV to win.
I mean, I get it. But sheesh... don't have them getting a bye if they're not going to be an at-large should they lose. Have at least a modicum of logic there.

I'd go so far as to say we should be in the CFP if it were strictly merit based, and that if we were we would make some noise in it the way they are playing right now.

Here is all you need to know about miami’s chances and you will know about 7:10 tonight

If miami is ranked higher than alabama and ole miss they are more than lilely gonna get in baring any upsets. If they are behind them they wont. Its pretty simple. It comes down to those 3 teams specifically for the at large spot. And this only is relevant if clemson loses which i think they will
This^^^^^^

I also think SMU beats Clemson

Lugenbill said today Allen is the best all purpose back in the country. That’s what will make him desirable as a 3rd down back. Great hands, pass blocker and tough runner when a couple yards are needed. Frans even been quoted saying he’ll be playing sundays. I think he makes a roster.
90% of the board disagrees. lol. I have said he is both the best blocking back and receiving back in at least the ACC, if not the country. you dont need elite speed or vision for getting 5 yards or protecting your Qb. I think he makes it.

His playoff bracket is crazy. Don’t trust him.

That said, Tennessee @ Ohio State and Alabama @ Penn State would be really fun first round on campus matchups.

Indeed, the cold weather home games with southern teams are gonna be awesome, but I don’t know why he has Tennessee playing at Ohio State. Tennessee didn’t lose to a walk on quarterback at home.

Brett updated his Bowl projections from yesterday. Still has Cuse going to Gator Bowl but playing Oklahoma.

Gator has prioritized UF with its SEC slot. Does not guarantee anything.

With its ACC slot, as long as the SEC is proximate to NE Florida (within reason), they simply take the ACC team with the best standing (as long as they have not played there recently). Obviously, Clemson is not going to the Gator in consecutive years.

So if the Gator gets struck with Mizzou, Oklahoma or LSU, they may feel compelled to grab Miami or Georgia Tech to boost their attendance numbers. And to be fair, those two schools bring TV eyes, likely more than SU (especially after GT's strong showing in Athens).

But if UF, Bama or (unlikely) South Carolina came to Jacksonville for the Gator, SU is in good shape.

Saturday was the day that I saw NFL potential in LQA. Not that Miami's D is great, but it's loaded with athletes. And Allen outperformed them, particularly in the passing game. By all accounts he's a really strong blocker as well.

I think he's likely an UDFA, but I can at last see him with an NFL future after the weekend.
I think he'll get a UFDA deal, maybe a practice squad spot. I believe he does a lot of things really well at the college level. But I feel like his size is a detriment without true breakaway speed to succeed in the NFL. We'll see what happens.

Agree. UDFA deal

If Gator gets "stuck" with LSU, attendance won't be a problem. Their fans came in droves to their game in the Dome a few years ago.

I'll be curious to see what NIL package they can put together to keep him. Fran wants him to stay but obviously respects his pro aspirations.

Our losses are disqualifying unfortunately. A 3 loss ACC team isn’t going to get in on its merits, unless 2 of those losses are to top 10 teams.

As far as the bowl game itself, how are we feeling? Obviously we all want to win, but with opt-outs, we probably aren't fielding our "full team." I really am excited to see what we do at the QB position obviously, but this will be a really good test to see the depth on this team that'll carry into 2025. Oddly not concerned about what the result of this game is?

It is foreordained.

Pre-season rankings, man.

If they decide you're good before the ball is even snapped you get the benefit of the doubt unless you really screw it up.

And in some cases, like Alabama, they just keep giving you a pass.

I’d say we are pretty close to a lock for the Gator Bowl.

If I wasn’t afraid of a last minute backdoor deal, I would book my stuff. But this is college football we’re talking about so
Well Virginia Tech is bowl eligible...
