2024 Holiday Bowl- Syracuse vs. Washington State December 27th, 8pm ET

Would you agree that people have done dumber things with their money?
Well one person may find value where another does not. Generally though I would agree.

I hate the whole nil concept. If I was not already a diehard fan, I would no longer be a college fan. Unfortunately I find it hard to break my addiction to SU sports after fifty years or more. I have no such addiction for any pro sports teams.

Don't you dare try to make me out to be the idiot on this.

I do that plenty of other times on plenty of other topics on this board, but on this one, I am not.

Don’t bother. I got into one disagreement with this poster a couple years back who got snarky and arrogant and then put me on ignore because he didn’t like being disagreed with.

Have you tried methadone?

My friend, the issue here is other people are sharing facts with you, and you are under the assumption they are opinions.

Now, NIL could change. But as of right now, there is a hard line between the rights of a student-athlete to benefit financially from their Name, Image, and Likeness, and compensation for other things.

Benefiting financially from directly competing is not Name, Image, or Likeness. It's performance. And athletic performance pushes into the "pay for play" territory. That is outside of the bounds of NIL. These are the actual rules. Note from the examples of NIL activities found here What is NIL? NCAA Name, Image, Likeness Rule Explained both what is listed, and what is not listed.

I do not believe I said you were an idiot, I know in fact from many other posts that you are not. That is why I asked you to explain that position to me.

Very good. I understand but would simply never agree to such an arrangement. Under that scenario how in hell is college sports going to survive long term? It simply opens the whole thing up to corruption and inequity. I would no longer be a fan if this had occurred earlier in my life, I would step away now but unfortunately already a diehard.

I feel for you. Personally I am happy to support NIL but on a very limited level. What I do have for philanthropic giving I feel can be put to more impactful uses elsewhere.

I think college sports will be fine, but it will change. There are court decisions and legislation in play now that changed the landscape of transfers and the rights of student athletes to NIL, and that's not all figured out yet. I argue it makes for a better world, because it puts the cash in hand of the student athlete finally. The value they bring has been exploited for far too long. That value going to the student athletes does have costs to the fans, both financially if the fan supports NIL, and personally since it does change the game and some ways they participate in fandom.

what would stop an NIL Deal to state that they wish to have photographs taken in the endzone of a stadium on these 12 weeks of the coming year with Options and Bonus for up to four more photo opps to be determined by market forces. 50% paid on milestone payments and 50% retainer at completion of project.

You sir are incorrect!
I am incorrect on many things but fail to see how that would apply to this post. Your post is incomprehensible related to the post you replied to.

He was just funnin' me, no worries bear. It's a running joke that I'm a board idiot and have a noted history of questionable decision-making.

This is the kind of self reflection that Legends are made of...

All kidding aside, your work explaining this stuff to the OP in this thread has been terrific.

Just saw Villari on the local news manning a phone for the Salvation Army food bank. His right arm is in a sling. How serious?

National exposure would be playing Alabama or South Carolina. Nobody cares about this game. I’m sure or Admin will spin it up that this was the most prestigious bowl.

I hear you. That's true nationally.
But for these guys, where have they played in bowl games before (if at all ...) - Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park in the snow?
This is a national game on Fox. It's a chance to be part of a 10 win team.
So few guys are a "sure thing" in the NFL. Wouldn't you want a good story to tell your grandkids?
That's what the Holiday Bowl, the Gator Bowl, the Liberty Bowl, the Sun Bowl, are all about. These are legacy bowl games.

Why do they schedule this bowl game on the 27th and schedule lower-paying bowls with teams with worse records after the 27th?

Because the 27th is a Friday game, and then the family can stay over and enjoy San Diego for the weekend.
