2025-26 NBA

I'm just in awe of Wemby. He has a very unusual body so I hope he can avoid any major injuries long-term. I think he's the most unique NBA player since Shaq. What he can do on a basketball court is unlike anything I've ever seen, and he's like 5-6 years away from entering his prime.
The Spurs first game is the first time I have really watched Wemby play besides highlights. The play where he shook his defender with a dribble move and then hit a step back 3 pointer was unbelievable. A guy that is 7'-5" should not be able to handle the ball like that, move like that and shoot like that. The only hope a defender has is to be physical enough to push him away from where he wants to go, but he has ways to counter that as well. Oh yeah, AND he can pass.

It’s a rough watch.

Between that and so many teams whose offense is just pass the ball around the perimeter, maybe dribble penetrate three feet inside the three-point line, kick out for a three, rinse and repeat each possession, it's becoming more difficult for me to watch anything but a Knicks game, which I have a vested interest in.

My favorite Wemby move is the post up drive, stop, and drop off the glass. It's hilarious. Absolutely cannot be stopped. His physical dimensions make it unguardable.

Plus it's like an homage to former Spurs great Tim Duncan and his bank shot.

Similar to the sky hook from Kareem regarding its inability to be guarded.

Got set to buckle in for Knicks - Celtics.
Then find: "The first exclusive NBA game broadcast on PRIME VIDEO"
Hooray for you, Bezos.
So no longer get full value from $ for FIOS Sports & News (access to all Knicks games is over).
Not signing up for Prime Video at any price, based on principle.

SGA's 40 free throw attempts in two games are more than the Warriors (the only other team that has played 2 games). His 20 attempts per game are as much or more than the Jazz, Bucks, Wizards, Cavs and Nuggets.
But they tell me that Jalen Brunson is a foul merchant. SMH.

KD is arguably the best scoring forward in the history of the NBA. He’s 37 now probably not the best time to analyzing his game day to day. There will be nobody of sane mind that tries to draw comparisons to him and Carmelo Anthony when it comes to there impact on the game.

Melo was a far better rebounder and defender than Durant. A better passer, too.
Durant was a volume scorer, but Melo was a more traditional low post forward who could dominate games, too.

One of my most hypocritical views: I bet on sports all the time, love a trip to the casino. Hate that it's all legal/especially hate that we are constantly bombarded with ads/have the ability to bet at our fingertips.

At minimum IMO, gambling should be treated like cigarettes re: advertisements. And if we went back to just straight up banning it and forcing people to find illegal ways to place bets, I would be totally fine with it. As much as I enjoy partaking, I think it's fairly obvious that it's bad for society.

My father-in-law, RIP, was a bookie and pretty big casino gambler 30 years ago.
It could be very exciting. Even dazzling at times.

I was brought up betting on parlay slips that Dad would bring home from his factory job. Small time stuff, but part of the sports culture.

When I first moved to NYC, working at my first job, I lost 2 1/2 weeks' pay on a spinning wheel at the San Gennaro Street Festival, trying to impress a girl.
Needless to say, when I lost all my money, that was the end of the date.

I literally lived on free coffee in the office, other people's beer and 65 cent street hot dogs for 2 weeks.

I never gambled again after that. Going hungry does that to you.

That's my version of some people's story of why they gave up drinking.

I watched less NBA last year than I have in my life. Probably won’t watch a lot this year except for good prime time games especially if Wemby is on. I’ll watch playoffs when it truly matters.

Hell of a start to the year though. I’m more intrigued now than I’ve been in years with this gambling stuff.

Billups is absolutely screwed. Tbh he should be concerned for his well being if these reports about mafia involvement are true.

This is like a gangster movie.

If you are a Knicks fan, this is the season to watch.

I read an interview Wemby gave before the season. He talked about the blood clot bringing an urgency to his career. He said he doesn't know how long he might have, so he made his body the best it could be, studied Eastern philosophy, really transformed who he. If they make the NBA Finals, I would not be at all surprised if he can stay healthy. He is 100 times the player Ralph Sampson was.

I didn't even know about the blood clot. I did know that he worked really hard in the off season, the eastern philosophy, working with Olajuwon among other things. He definitely worked really hard to be the best he can be. And, he is ridiculously talented. Sampson was incredible in his day, but Wemby doesn't move or shoot like a 7'-5" player. It's really incredible.

No cable, I presume. It was on MSG.

I feel like there’s a pretty reasonable chance (as much as there can be) that wemby is going to be the greatest player of all time
Depends on what you go by. If you took three important categories like Most championships, most MVP's, and most points, its not even Jordan, even though I, and most fans, would consider him the GOAT.

KAJ has more MVP's and more points and the same amount of championships as MJ, but very few consider KAJ as the the greatest.

Kareem is so underrated on the GOAT discussions. I like Wemby, his potential, and his "wow did you see that " ability, but let's see him stay healthy and consistent for a year.
