Maybe UVA players are anticipating the Millon brothers starting together on attack alongside either Ryan Colsey or Sunderland with the other taking a first midfield slot. You’ve also got Duenkel & Browne coming off injuries.

Browne will definitely play somewhere, I could see him running 1st midfield or even attack. Not sure Duenkel will be someone they can't count on playing anytime soon, he's probably a longshot to play at all next year much less extended time.

Yeah, I read on either Fanlax or here that he’s still having hip issues. It’s a shame. I’ve been following his career/highlights since watching him absolutely dominate 2 ESPN-televised HS games as a sophomore & though he’s smaller, his speed, change of direction, vision, field sense, & hustle is off the charts. He reminds me of a young Jimmy Bitter & has the Mike Powell hockey-stop & Lyle Thompson wrap-around goals down pat. He was also a maniac on the ride in HS.

att @ mid is kind of a misnomer for the hoos. they weren't stacking guys like duke, nd, and unc have been able to do, but hoo does? terenzi was out essentially all year, their 2 biggest o mid recruits the last 2 years have been put @ ssdm (hausmann, burt). and 4 of the top 6 mids were actually midfielders, and 1of the 2 was balsamo hoo had been nothing but a mid in college (and also barely played). they do lose schutz and walshe, as well as att convert mencke, and now likely hackett.

What would have happened if Browne, K Colsey and Dunkle were healthy this year? That would have added three more natural attackmen to the equation. What was the plan brining all of them in? You say they weren't stacking guys like duke nd and unc, but ... weren't they? Aren't they able to? UVA is part of that group! They are UVA for crying out loud! They get a top five recruiting class almost every year. I must be missing something here.

I sort of feel like they caught up bringing in the most highly ranked players, regardless of fit or position, and are paying the price for it now. Sure, they didn't play a lot of attackmen this year at midfield, but that's largely because three of their top recruits were injured this year. They relied on transfers to help fill the holes, and those did not work out (Balsamo and Hackett combined for nine points). People on this board have been pointing out the logjam at attack for a couple of years now ... all I am saying is that this did not come out of nowhere and it just looks like really poor roster management.

my understanding is liam intends to go to gtown too but there are extra steps since he's an undergrad. rory has had this destination lined up for awhile, but liam could only enter the portal as of a few weeks ago and has to go through the undergrad transfer application process before he can announce...

i expect a couple decent names to enter the portal this week and next after the tourney...it wont be stacked with talent...but should be a few impact players out there...

here's a list of some mids they've brought in the last several years, and it's not exclusive:
terenzi - top 5 recruit and been injured
burt - top 25 recruit and now ssdm
mccarthy - back half top 100 4 star doesn't play
erdmann - back half top 100 4 star now ssdm
lagunowich - top 50 4 star and ssdm
hausmann - top 10ish recruit and ssdm

probably a few of those guys (and others) may have been targets after they whiffed on guys that duke, unc, nd, and a few ivies got. what should they have done differently as i'm not sure what you're saying?

browne i hope turns out ok, bc they may need him not far down the road as the starters are getting longer in the tooth, but i saw him live in the fall and... i'll stop there.

uva has a much larger potential problem coming up with the depth of their poles. they had 3 decent freshmen, and 2 got some time. they have schroter and a 2025 coming in for lsm. after that, no experience. hope nobody gets hurt.

p.s. and by stacking guys, i was talking about middies. which a few teams have been woofing on, and there aren't as many around.

one problem i see is that lars tries to turn almost every middie into a 2-way player or ssdm trying to recreate the ryan conrad experience...terenzi could have been a great offensive midfielder but lars pegged him as a d-mid...same with hausmann. sometiems you have to do that out of necessity, every coach converts offensive guys to defense on occasion, but he wastes the offensive potential of middies more than other coaches...redshirting terenzi in 23 only to turn him into a d middie...i dont get it...lars has his strengths but it's fair to question his roster management and as you see with these portal entries, some players aren't into the way he does things...even guys like dickson and cormier who ultimately decided to stay in hooville...they were not always happy campers.

well, we actually were taking the scraps that year! look at our recruits for the 2023 grad year. our top offensive recruit by far? burt. back when he was #25. he eventually dropped below 50 late, why i don't know.

millon fell in their lap, i won't divulge why.

go back and look at our lineups from 2019 to 2024. attackmen everywhere. even a middie (moore) ended up locking up an att spot. much more so than this past year (post-injuries). #1 recruit shellenberger playing a lot of (mostly) midfield. now, we can't score and its the potential mix that we could have had?!?!? make it make sense.

i don't even know hoo we're talking about here, browne? is it he hoo's the casualty of an overload of attackmen? i have no idea if he can play. we'll see. he was a 20 something recruit and the 9th ranked attackman that year. because there are so many beloved attackmen.

those 3 weren't saving the season as freshmen, but maybe 1 or 3 get time. #60 - something recruit ryan colsey beat out browne (and balsamo) for the lefty spot. you guys didn't even want him! his brother went down too early to tell hoo would've won that competition. either way, it would be to their own brother!

as i said, they've brought in some guys at mid. they haven't broken into the lineup as o mids but some have found their way on the field as d-mids (4 of them, in fact). did they miss on their o potential/get it wrong? maybe, not sure. i know they missed on their "top ranked" mid targets to those schools.

what about 2/3 of 'cuse's mids? isn't leo a converted attackman? didn't 'cuse get english in the portal? stevens last year?isn't anderson running around at mid because there's no room at the inn except at midfield? why aren't they recruiting middies?!?!?

this is assuming hausmann can dodge. he looked a little clumsy early games once on offense as 2 way (nerves?), but he has a cannon and looks the part. i'm also assuming above all the smoke around k colsey is fire. we'll see.

as a midfielder, i agree with this post. will we ever know what the now 5 middies in the last 2 years hoo got employed at shorty could do on offense? maybe with 1 or 2. terenzi was going to be running offense this past year.

but they had hackett, too, and didn't use him.

maybe these guys in many cases had prototypical size for either end, and were needed (terenzi smaller, talking about others).

couple of the issues for everybody are -- attackman get all the love in recruit circles. ssdms are so important in college but so rarely seen on the recruit circuit. it starts there, and somebody's got to get converted.

uva has run out converted fogos, converted attackmen (chizmar is the 3rd ssdm converted from att in last 5 years, and the 2nd walk on attackman), and of course o mids and d men. the ssdm role is too important, but not stocked in club ball recruiting.

Brendan Millon while a bit 2-handed is not a lefty. I think Tiffany will try to play B.Millon at midfield much like he did with Shellenberger (his 1st year). B.Millon is a bit taller than his brother at 6' and plays more out in front of the goal and off ball than his brother.

The 2nd big thing would be if K.Colsey was ready to go and stays put, so maybe you get a line-up like:

Cuse is likely to play some young guys at ssdm next year including Kittleberger and Jack Schell and hope to get Levine back. I'm sure they'll look at the portal but I suspect an O guy and fogo more then an SSDM.

could def go that kind of way. last fall, they certainly seemed predestined to have a "lefty" as lt spoke about the competition for a spot.
b millon doesn't seem to carry cs's athleticism, with his top ++ skill maybe smarts, like sunderland. sunderland can't play middie and had the biggest jump in 2025.
we'll see. if anything, i do expect little millon to get time at attack, like shellenberger and sunderland did. they need an orchestrator.
k colsey staying put would be good to see if it happens. he'd seem with his shot and quickness able to play both. he is coming off a knee (i think), but over a year recovery. hackett coming back could be big. if they use him.
