That is it for now the next pick will be made by Rrlbees later tonight.

BTW Mark, you snagged the two highest ranked teams on my board left.

i wont be on till after the Knick win.

im pretty sure i know whats on bees plate, but i will refrain.

Am I the only one that wishes there were more people in the draft so it would be like 8 conferences of however many teams you want. Make the bottom rounds tough (and vital) and it would require people to actually have a strategy of who they want to add into their conferences instead of having a conference that has 2 Florida teams, 2 Cali teams, PSU, SU, Maryland, BYU (Whom won't play or travel on Sundays), UNLV, Louisville, Clemson, and then GT. The travel expenses for those teams would be insane and the student-athletes not in football or basketball would be utterly screwed. And that's just one conference, only one of them is at least relatively logical and that is Kaiser's but Miami traveling to Wisconsin would certainly pose a number of issues.

But all my complaining aside, I enjoyed reading through the thread and really like the concept. I just want to see everyone work to try and pick smaller schools with the potential to grow or actually have the focus be a bit regional and incorporate academics & non-revenue sports.

Yo, we are building pods...for example:
'Cuse, Penn State, Maryland and Louisville is a pod
FSU, Florida, Clemson and Georgia Tech are a pod
etc.
Based on way selections go...it would be near impossible to pick an ACC conference or a B1g etc. take for example picks 4, 5, 12, 13,20,21...not going to make it an easy selection for geography with easy travel. However, pods make it so...and you may have a west coast and east coast division with champions than meeting...hope this helps you understand that the four of us are not completely idiots.

Says the commish with teams in Florida and California.

Actually it's an interesting strategy question: Do you lock in a strong pod early or set the foundation for four even pods? Or go with 8-team divisions? Or just stick to your board, take the Best School Available and sort them out later?
This is the draft strategy boiled down. I did it sticking to drafting an anchor football and basketball team for all 4 of my pods last year.

That makes more sense but pods are only effective for football. Basketball and all the other sports would be totally screwed. Cuse basketball traveling to Cali twice (I guess you could do a Friday-Sunday weekend there) and then Vegas and BYU. that's a whole hell of a lot of traveling. Ask WVU, they have already gone to the Big12 to ask them to help ease their traveling woes by doing package games but even that is WVU to state of Texas, not Cuse to Stanford and UCLA. Then they would have to go to FSU and Florida which is another long flight. Maryland and PSU could be driven even though it'd be a bit long for Maryland but Louisville requires another flight and that's just for in the pod.

Hopefully those conferences are pooping money because they are going to need it to pay for the travel expenses of all the other programs.

The last pick of the 8th round is Virginia Tech (Helps my mid atlantic pod)

And the first pick of the 9th round is California (Helps my USC pod...actually the State Flagship)

Mark, re-reading this are the VPI girls Seth Greenberg's daughters?

This would be a good simulation game of conference commissioners. It would account for financials (TV contracts, attendance, travel for the non-revenue sports etc.), on-field performance (use one of the existing Cups), off-field performance (use the Fulmer Cup, arrests, convictions, team discipline, etc.) and sprinkle in some academics. There wouldn't be much to do other than pick the teams and watch the standings throughout the season.

At the end of the draft does each captain write an emotional letter to the board on why their league should be selected to win? Or will there be a five hour open thread where only captains are allowed to post and argue their league?

I know the Knicks are still playing, if you want to call it that, but my next selection is Vanderbilt, a strong money maker and in a good location.

C'mon everyone is welcome to comment and make jokes and stuff. The 4 GMs will explain their conferences and show their divisions/pods and I and everyone else will make comments and determine who did the best job.
