3-0... 1991, wow.

My memory may be off, but I thought we beat UF to go to 4-0, followed by the FSU loss in Tallahassee where we actually took a 14-7 lead on 2 big plays. But regardless, that should have been an 11-1 season. Losing to ECU at home is absolutely unacceptable even if they were a good team that year.

Was that when Jeff Blake was the QB for ECU? Man. I always found it ironic that for a team that had mobile quarterback traditions we often had trouble stopping opponents who had similar quarterbacks. Jamie Burnett at NC State; Mike Vick (minus the freeney year); Major Harris (?); Doug Flutie; I am sure there are others that I am forgetting.

35 in June i think. I already forget how old i am at times. Luckily being born in 80' makes the math easier. Yikes.

I was 21, a junior in college, still off the high of the Giants winning the Super bowl and I drank a lot of crappy beer and played a lot of golf.

Looking back life hasn't changed much aside from the Giants current state of affairs.

God I miss my youth...

You're one month older than me! I'm 33 in November.

With the name Rocco I envisioned you as a 50-year-old Firefighter with a sweet mustache... or something similar.

That is hilarious. I just spit out my coffee.

To go a little Seinfeld on you, Rocco is a handsome, well-dressed entrepreneur who can throw a friggin pigskin over a mountain. Yep, he's good.

Here comes Battalion Chief Rocco, dominating fires the way SU will dominate Central Michigan on Saturday.

So the last time we started 3-0 was 1991. 19-friggin-91.

If we can do our thing against CMU, this will be the first time Syracuse Football started 3-0 in 24 years. I was 8.

In today's Daily Orange piece about Dungey "learning on the fly", this excerpt blew me away:

He will be making his second career start in his third career game when Syracuse hosts Central Michigan on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. He’ll be trying to lead the Orange to its first 3-0 start since 1991 — five years before he was born.

Some fun facts about 1991:

  • George H.W. Bush was POTUS.
  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average topped 3,000 for the first time (currently 16,700)
  • The Fed Funds Rate was 6.5% (currently at 0%)
  • Operation Desert Storm in Kuwait
  • Boris Yeltsin becomes Russia's first free-election vote President
  • Cyclone in Bangladesh kills 200,000
  • The web browser is introduced and unrestricted commercial use of the "internet" is allowed
  • Number of computers on "the net" reaches 1 million
  • Kurt Cobain and Nirvana's Nevermind album commences the grunge scene in music
  • Beauty and the Beast, Hook and Terminator 2 are a few of the popular films out

Let's take care of the football, put up some points, knock their QB on his ass and end this 24 year 3-0 draught.

LGO.

Not to quibble, but the NSF Net (the primary Internet backbone at the time) first interconnected to commercial networks in 1992, and the original Internet backbone was not fully available to commercial traffic until the spring of 1995.

"In 1992, the U.S. Congress passed the Scientific and Advanced-Technology Act, 42 U.S.C.§ 1862(g), which allowed NSF to support access by the research and education communities to computer networks which were not used exclusively for research and education purposes, thus permitting NSFNET to interconnect with commercial networks.[51][52] ... The Commercial Internet eXchange (CIX), Metropolitan Area Exchanges (MAEs), and later Network Access Points (NAPs) were becoming the primary interconnections between many networks. The final restrictions on carrying commercial traffic ended on April 30, 1995 when the National Science Foundation ended its sponsorship of the NSFNET Backbone Service and the service ended.[54][55]"

They beat Tulane in New Orleans and then had the back-to-back losses to FSU and ECU.

That guys looks more like a Shep to me.

The 1991 and 1992 teams were probably P's best teams, either one of those teams could have easily been 11 win teams. ECU in '91 was a classic What loss and remember, in '92 we lost at home to an Ohio St. team we were favored to beat and narrowly lost to Miami at home, the only two losses on the season.

Wouldn't call ECU a What loss. Wild game and ECU went undefeated that year with Jeff Blake.

I rewatched that OSU game on YouTube and they were loaded even without Joey Galloway.

I was 28, it was the year before I met the man that liked to make mute points and not drive on the meridian. Damn, how I would like to go back and rethink WHAT THE HELL I WAS DOING that entire decade

He was a mime? :)

I think you could make a very reasonable argument that the 1992 team was better than the 1987 team.
