Yes he was, as he should've been. I don't think George did it intentionally but they're very similar songs.

Indeed, "Surfin' U.S.A." is the same basic melody as "Sweet Little Sixteen".

Unlike George Harrison, Brian Wilson knew and said he wrote new words to the same melody. Because of this the copyright of SUSA was owned by Chuck Berry's music publisher according to Wikipedia.

The judge himself said he thought there was no intent to copy, just that the melody was in his head without George really knowing at the time why it was there. And everyone seemed to accept that, so far as I can recall. When you've done as much great work as they did, you get a little respect, and I'm sure we're all okay with that, too.

This thread, like 60's music, will never die.

CNN's The Sixties...a series of documentaries about the 60's. This episode has been aired a few times in the past couple of weeks...The British Invasion. Pretty good, got good ratings...and I'm not sure how long it'll be up on youtube before they kill it?

One man's opinion...a list of what he calls under appreciated songs from the 60's. An interesting and long list. I don't agree that some of them were under appreciated. I found a few that I hadn't heard in many years...and some that I'd never heard.

He also has a Syracuse connection...brought up in the area. Has an interesting column about Carmen Basilio and Norm Rothschild.

If you've got the time and inclination you'll probably find his list, and his writing, interesting.

I like the Nylons version a whole lot better. A group long neglected IMO They "Lion sleeps tonight is excellent.
