8/20/15 Practice # 12 At Fort Drum

Shafer expresses appreciation for the hospitality of Fort Drum. Let them come practice inside on Tuesday, move scrimmage up today.

Shafer says the team ran 60-70 plays. Notes George Morris (50-yard TD run) and Terrel Hunt as top performers.

Shafer says the backup QB job is between rSo. Austin Wilson and freshman Eric Dungey. That's a bit of a surprise.

Juwan Dowels, Steven Clark, Jordan Fredericks and Dontae Strickland are other top performers.

Shafer said QB AJ Long is still coming back from the broken bone in his hand. Threw 100 balls yesterday.

Shafer said the staff is still taking its time getting DE Ron Thompson and DT John Raymon back. Initial plan was 3 weeks for Thompson.

Shafer wants the young safeties to be able to help in kicking game, provide depth.

Still eary but Enoicy struggling is one of he reasons myself and a few others were calling for more then just one WR recruit in this years recruiting class. The lack of positive news so far this camp on Enoicy, Custis and Avant is very troubling.
Avant has been very good as I understand it so don't know what you mean there.

Dungey challenging Wilson for the #2 spot is awesome. Not that I have anything against Austin, I definitely do not, but for a true frosh to be in the battle for the #2 spot is definitely a positive in my book.

I don't pump up walkons but the kid is curious. He's 10.97 100 meter track kid from Detroit. Did make all-state. Has some impressive HS video. If only he weren't a midget but like I said, he's an interesting prospect, maybe in the return game down the road.

He's got a bit of Sproles in him. Joystick/video game type movement and slippery. Would love to see him fielding punts at some if he's capable of tracking them in the air.

After last year's futility, you just get the sense that this year's offense is going to be SO MUCH MORE potent. Not that they are going to be where they are dominant or anything, just much more efficient / effective.

Healthy OL + senior QB with something to prove + better playmakers + some explosive playmaking talent [finally] + better play calling = a lot more points

The key is the OL
