ACC and G5s

Man, scared to ask how many of these we are responsible for.

Note that the two biggest ACC brands combine for 1 of those games, and have 0 this year.

As for 2022, the B1G, Big 12, P12 all have 9 league games. That helps them avoid it.

The SEC schools have enough money and power to avoid it.

The rest of us commoners, not having the means nor the extra league game, get left with little choice. Also, looks like we only have 1 of the losses (@USF in 2015).

Since being in the ACC, the team's OOC away/neutral record is 5-8 (5-1 vs G5 teams).

Wins at Central Michigan, UConn, Western Michigan, Liberty and Ohio.
Losses at Northwestern, USF, LSU, Maryland.

Neutral Losses vs Penn State, Notre Dame x2 at Metlife and Notre Dame at Yankee Stadium.

It’s moronic.

UNC and NC state shouldn’t be playing App state and ECU on the road this weekend.

NC state has their highest preseason rank in years and I think UNC is better this year than they were last year when they were preseason top 10.

There is state law in NC that forces those games to happen. Not up to the schools/programs.

UNC and or NC State could lose those games. Wont be as much of a cake walk at it looks.

The only umbrage I will take with the tweet is, that some of those G5 schools were pretty damn good. And some of them even won their bowl games versus Big Ten and SEC.

I guess we should be like the SEC and play games against FCS teams then

UNC/App State is a pick 'em, in what will be a sold out, rowdy stadium. They know this won't be a cake walk.

NC State is an 11 point favorite, and will probably win/cover. But ECU wasn't bad last year.

NCST has lost the last two times they played in Greenville...

True. And that's not an easy place to play.

But this is Toby from The Office's best team. On paper anyway. Will be curious to see if the air comes out of that balloon early. Not a program that's used to Top 10-15 type attention.

Yup, it all comes down to money. We can't offer the money that would off-set the loss of ticket revenue that a G5 would get for a home game.

And someone posted in that tweet thread that Vandy has at least 7 of the SEC's 25 games.

Vandy has 2 of the 3 SEC road G5 games this season.

Conference revenue is great, but gameday revenue matters.

UVa fans are horribly parochial. They will never give up the games against the VA G5 schools (Liberty, James Madison, and Old Dominion) and the D-1AA teams unless they are forced to. Unlike the NC schools, UVa and VPI are not required by VA law to play those teams, probably because they play them so regularly and the G5s at their place as part of the contract. Our fans like the idea because in their minds, one of, if not the, leading reason to play the G5s instead of a Nebraska, Okie State, or even a Cal is "I can drive to the away game" (i.e. "I can go there and back in one day and don't have to get a hotel room). While we were in no way ready as a team to play Oregon, Southern Cal (who we nearly beat in LA), and UCLA when we did, I believe the biggest objection by our fans to playing them was that the away game would be on the West Coast.

I can see trying to go to 3 for 1 instead of 2 for 1 against the G5s, but they will want a game at their place for the gate. The only way to stop games against the D-1AAs is to limit how many times you can count the game toward bowl eligibility (require a 1- or 2-year break).

Why does VT seem to play ODU on the road more often than they should.

I have less than no idea why VPI is giving them so many home games. By 2031 (when the last posted game of the series on VPI's website) it will be 7 games in Blacksburg and 6 in Norfolk. The only thing I can think of is that VPI wants to use it as a recruiting tool in Tidewater.

We have to stop. I can see an exception for Temple (as we can take over the stadium), Army, and Navy. Maybe UConn if they play at Yankee Stadium or the Yale Bowl. Maybe UMass if they play at Gillette. That is it. No reason to go elsewhere at this point.

When State has any expectations they fall flat on their faces. I expect that to continue this year...

alabama doesnt play anyone on the road period.
Florida doesn't really, either... out of state.
They do have the FSU series and will have an occasional Miami series.
Their last true out-of-state away game was in the Dome... yes, our Dome.
They did play Michigan in Jerry World a few years ago (I was there), but that was a neutral site game.

Alabama does do neutral site games (e.g. in Atlanta).
