ACC looking to add UConn as 16th member

You've brought up a bad subject.

Seriously?

I don't think SU and BC want UConn in the ACC.

I don't think either wanted Rutgers.

I'll leave it at that.

Certainly not hard to understand that ... :)

Worked in his office one summer when he was the AG of Connecticut and got to spend some time with him. Great guy. Down to earth. Just a decent person in general.
Hopefully he didn't help you with your resume. ;-)

Can't stand attention seeking, camera hunting public figures. His grand standing is on par with Schumer and Durbin.

Nice guy but he brought lawsuits against the ACC when BC VT, Miami etc. left. But perhaps just as bad if not worse, he filed lawsuits against the tobacco industry.. You know... The ones down on shhhhh.. T...cco R..d.

No brand
No football program that matters
Small fan base
Bball coaches despised Calhoun
Lawsuit

What about the Big Ten? Better chance of that happening than ACC? Are those only two options for big time conferences?

B1G is already at an even number of teams. And the addition of Rutgirls and Maryland gives them TV eyeballs from NYC down to DC.

What would UConn add that the BiG doesn't already have?

I disagree with small fan base and no brand. Uconn may not bring in crowds of 30,000 but they do have a large following in Connecticut, Downstate NY, New England etc.

bball coaches despise Jamie Dixon, look what conference he's in.

I think they'd lock up the Northeast, if not the NY metro area, with the addition of UConn.

You'd have Rutgers, UConn, Penn State and Maryland vs. SU, BC and Pitt.

But, honestly, conference affiliations are so absurd now it's beyond ridiculous.

If you listen to them talk, they are already in a big time conference.

You just named the same fans and gave it 3 different names. They do not have a national following and are not a brand. Dixon and Calhoun are 2 different animals.

For Yukon those are their only realistic hopes. The only others are:
  • SEC - never happening
  • PAC - doesn't make any geographical sense
  • Bevo - only a microscopic chance. Cincy would be a much better fit from a geographic standpoint.

I find it hard to believe we would not want a 30000 + payday. Rutgers makes sense. UConn the money would talk.

No national following?

I think you vastly underestimate how much American love a winner.

We win next weekend and we are in the same class as KS, UNC, Duke and KY.

But they have Kevin Ollie. And Kevin Ollie is tight with King James.

BC is the school without a following.

There's no interest in Pitt football, too.

Marsh, you wanna take this one?

Yes, no national following. If UConn meant anything to anyone, you would be in a real conference by now, and not the steaming pile of dog crap that is the ACK. Of course, that is exactly where your football team belongs.

We'll see. I think UCONN will end up in the B1G when all is said and done.

You're reply tells me how little you know what a brand is or a national following which was important to the ACC.

I get it. Just not sure if that translates to being one of the most vile human beings on the face of the earth.

In hindsight he was wrong, but uconn fans were behind him at the time and they loved the scorched earth strategy. They still love it with respect to thw ACC.

I was at the Elite 8 soccer game between UCONN and UCLA a few months ago. UCONN fans were louder than UCLA fans.

I can show you the link on Youtube.

I wore UCONN gear this weekend in Encinitas while shopping and running errands. I got stopped at least a dozen times by people who knew UCONN and Shabazz.

Go on the boneyard and look who tweeted congrats to Ollie/UCONN/Shabazz. Some of the best BB players in history. NBA franchises. Celebrities. Talking heads.

Everyone knows UCONN.

Its like saying FL St isn't a national brand because they only have 3 NC and they are all in the last 25 years.

I know you guys had a great showing at MSG this weekend and those Metro North trains were packed. Congrats on a special weekend. You guys have been through a lot crap over the last couple years and this has to feel insanely good.

But I rarely see uconn gear in Manhattan. Ever. On the UES I see Syracuse, Michigan, Penn State on a daily basis. Even Rutgers I'm starting to see more of which is obviously shocking. Never see UConn. There is some buzz going on right now with UConn, but still don't see the gear anywhere on a consistent basis.

While I have no affinity for uconn, I grew up in CT and went to high school in the mid 90s at the height of Huskymania when both men's and women's games were sold out and the entire crowd would stay to the end. It was a fun time to grow up. Curious to see if this run will wake up your fans or if the crowds will continue to be sparse.

Go Gators.

Play along with me for a moment.

If you asked college BB fans around the country to name top 10 BB programs, how many would name UCONN?

How many would know Shabazz?

How many would know Kemba?

How many would know our current coach? previous coach?

How many could name 5 past/present UCONN players?

How many would know our women's BB coach?

Now, could Pitt do better? Rutgers? BC? Wake Forrest? NC State? Villanova? Wisc? TX? AZ? KS? UNC?

I think UCONN would do more like those at the end of the list than the beginning.
