ACC, PAC-12, and BIG alliance / conference realignment

There are millions of fans that have allegiance to schools outside the elite 2 that could do the same thing.

There are too many platforms looking for content so there will always be a place to watch your team if you are outside the 34 teams currently in the P2. You won't get the same payouts, but does it really matter when you don't play those schools?

Just look at the left behind Big East. At the time FS1 needed content (they no longer need this) and overpaid for the Big East. You have CBS/Paramount+, NBC/Peacock, FOX/FS1, ABC/ESPN/ESPN+, Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon, TBS/TNT, CW who will all be looking for content. The B1G/SEC cannot fulfill that on their own. So there will be a home somewhere for the current non P2. Which will draw eyeballs away.

That is why I think they need to get to 50+ teams between the two. There will still be left behinds but they will be brands so small that the major TV players won't even bother.

The problem is there is no rational way to get both conferences to the same number of teams. Maybe 2 x 25 works, but that is even a stretch. If you do not have the two at the same number of schools, I could see the B1G at 30 and the SEC at 20. That works a lot better. The B1G at 32 and the SEC at 24 is a bit of a stretch but possible.

Yes, there will always be a platform, but if non-SEC/B1G fans don't watch them, the product is less valuable. Less valuable means lower contracts for them. Fans outside of the big 2 can influence the value of the conferences by choosing who to watch. We don't have to watch a game just because it is the game of the week between two highly ranked teams that is hyped non-stop. The SEC started doing this naturally decades ago because they've always thought everyone was inferior and have the dixie pride "SEC SEC SEC" mentality.

Again, do I expect it to happen? No. Too many sports fans will watch all the "big" games because they can't not do it. Basically, the definition of addicition.

The ACC is needed. It's why ESPN renewed. The Big will most likely survive as well. ACC made great move by adding Cal Stanford and SMU. I'd like to see us add a few more large markets.

In 2030 or so the ACC needs to either merge with the B12 or poach ASU, Arizona and Utah. 4 pods of 5.

SMU can swing east or west depending on the ability to get 2 or 3 western schools.

good take. I would also want to add Cincinatti if possible although I'm not sure if they would be an accretive acquisition for the league. Probably but not sure. I also like San Diego State and Houston as they both should add value.

Including those in baby blue who have never done anything of note and do nothing in football considering their resources, recruiting, coaching, off-the-books money, co-classes requirement for STUDENT-athletes. UNCheat finished 12th of 17 in 2024. Of all the teams Woad believes should be removed from the ACC, only Wake Forest finished lower. Maybe when UNCheat actually does something in football others will listen.
It's the Carolina Way.

All those could be candidates if the ACC expands to 24...or the ACC might need to look to UCF and USF to replace FSU and Clemson.

2028-2030 will determine the ACC's future

If media rights in general decline in value by the end of the decade, the recent ESPN extension of the ACC contract might look pretty damn good to B 12 schools when their contract comes up around 2030.

Good article on the impact of what the SEC and B1G are doing and how it impacts everyone else.

I would expect to see more ACC matchups with B12 schools in coming years.

The game with Tennessee might be the last time we ever play an SEC team during the regular season again.

It will be interesting to see if we schedule any B1G home and homes from this point forward. More likely than a home and home with an SEC team but it isn't going to be easy.

Looking at student population only, Arizona state has over 150,000 students which includes online. Arizona has over 50k and Cincinatti has over 50k students. Houston, Utah, and San Diego State all have about 35k each. Those are the schools i would focus on.

I wonder if our Ped State series is in jeopardy?

UCF and USF also are candidates.

If the ACC wants more traction in Texas: Houston or Texas Tech can be looked at too

Just an opinion, take it for what it is worth. Please, no Texas Tech consideration. They rank below 200 in academic rating, making WVU an academic powerhouse. Plus, there is nothing there. U of H is the far better choice, plush robbing several home-grown recruits for the ACC from UT, TAMU, and OU is always a good thing.

If we continue to be good, I think they might.

It would be a disaster for them to get swept by Syracuse in a home and home.

I think they are planning to expand that garbage can they call a stadium before we play them again. And make it bigger. Not better.

Can't wait to sit on a bench half a mile from the field, with a seat width of 17 inches again.

Accccckkkkkk! says the Bill the Nittany Lion Cat on the piece of crap PA system there.

Well, depending on who comes/goes, the logical adds in my opinion, in order, are:

1. Houston--travel partner with SMU... good market to add (6th overall).
2. Colorado--especially if Deion is still coaching there.
3. Utah

You end up with the No Cal duo, the Texas duo, the Colorado/Utah duo,

4. WVU
5-6. UConn/Kansas to shore up hoops.
7-8. Then Arizona/Arizona St.
9-10. Iowa St./BYU

When I went to the last game that we played there, it was my first time there, and I was shocked at what a dump it was. A big metal erector set in the middle of a forest, basically.

Kudos for the Bloom County/Bill the Cat reference. You are being generous to PedState.

P.S. Why expand a stadium when people are leaning towards staying home and watching the game on the 75" or larger screen in their living room? Their ticket demand cannot be that great that they should expand. Anecdotally: I attend TAMU games from time to time and the seats are higher up than anything in the Dome, I literally have a better view from home without dedicating an entire day to travel, tailgate, fight traffic and spend a fortune doing so.

I think they have the 2nd biggest stadium and want to say they have the biggest.

Their video confirms the rebuilt area will feature the same erector set like skank setup with even worse seat lines. And no concern for fan comfort.

It is very Penn State.

Having been to Beaver Stadium several times, I can say without hesitation that if SU had a setup like that, I would watch every game on TV.

You cannot add a large market in any meaningful sense unless you add a school that can deliver that market to a degree that matters. For example, Temple is in the heart of a very large TV market, but no league would gain anything but dead weight by adding Temple. PSU delivers the Philly TV market, while Temple cannot deliver anything.

And that gets us back to the state Flagship and Land Grant issue.

After that is faced, then there are other issues that matter: Football talent produced by the state and the TV market; proven CFB watching within the state and that TV market (and not just for the one school in question); alums willing to donate money and time to help the school build its football program; the school in question's historic rivalries as well as its geographic value in CFB terms (not NFL terms nor land development terms).
