I've got to have something to root for since I'm going to continue to watch games. Therefore, I was just thinking about how many games would likely get us in the acc tournament, so I went back and looked at final standings for the last several years (tossing out the covid year).

Before taking a look, I was thinking that we would surely be able to finish no worse than #15th place. However, year after year, to avoid being in the worst 3 team dumpster fire, it would take 7 wins. I know this year is a bit different since we now have 18 teams, but it's still probably a pretty good estimate. This left me disappointed because I don't see 7 more wins in our future. I do think we will begin playing better with JJ in the lineup and Bell hopefully finding his deep shot. However, I'd only give us 5 more wins, maybe 6. This is so sad.

Great take..

This week is very important to our ACCT chances we must go 2-0
I think that would be huge but I'd actually take 1-1. My bar is so low right now. 2-0 this week and I'd actually start thinking there is a chance.

Never in my life would I thought we'd have this or even consider this conversation. Lowest of the low points ever!
I haven’t seen any of the typical “Rutgirls” trash talk lately. That must mean something. We are officially lower than the low.

If we are legitimately on the ACCT bubble...like if it's that close...for the sake of the program, I'd rather not make it.
I agree as long as it meant a new coach next year, but what worries me from some of the insiders talk even then Red comes back.
That would appear to mean the AD is giving up on the program.

I already said it does

Yeah, I guess the sarcasm didn't come through. I'll clarify. It really doesn't give us anything to root for. If we're on the bubble to make the conference tournament, the season is completely lost. Making the conference tournament isn't something I will ever root for. It will only ever be the most basic of expectations, very much like the sun rising in the east and setting in the west.

I gotcha. I also tend to agree that if we're on the acc tournament bubble (which I believe we are and will continue to be all season), things are lost. However, I STILL have to find something to look forward to, otherwise I'll just stop watching.

Lately I've been thinking about the rough patch that I went through as a fan watching cuse football, particularly the G Rob era. I never did miss a game. I have had more patience and willingness to watch a crappy product on the football side than the basketball side. Not sure why other than our basketball program had an incredible run of consistent high level success I guess.

Once upon a time, we argued over whether our ranking was accurate... so what if we did not leave NY state, etc. Now we are not sure we can crack a Top 15 in the ACC. I am beginning think that this is worse freefall than GRob, with blame going to both Boeheim and Autry. GRob took a 6 win team to new lows. These two have taken a top 10 program and made it not even top 15 in our conference. Losing hope to have more wins than the football team is pathetic...

Looked it up. The 1961-1962 basketball team won 2 games, the football team won 8 that fall.

In those intervening 60+ years, the closest call was 1968-1969, where the hoops team won 9 after the football team won 6.

Sitting here in NYC waiting for my daughters OCC game to start. Saw some posts on social media about Pearl with his birthday being yesterday. Thinking about how we used to own this city at MSG in the BET, year after year. That seems so far away. The ACCT has been nothing to me. Have we even played in the semis?

Yeah, that's a good point. In basketball, our floor was consistently 20 wins, tournament berth every year. We knew we would be decent and maybe great. In football, at least in my tenure as a fan which began in 89, the bar has been much lower. So, we get to a bowl game, horray. Obviously the McNabb years were not that but after his time at Cuse, it all went down hill.

No, not only have we never made it to the Semi's, there has never been an ACC Tournament where we even won two games. Very sad considering the fantastic history in the Big East Tourney.
