just dreaming of where we could be if gross hired Steve addazio.

After grob. There was a push from rob Konrad to hire addazio. Gross hired marrone instead.

Marrone was and is a much better coach than Addazio. It was the right hire at the time.

I don't disagree that Marrone was the right guy at the right time. But if we knew Marrone was going to jump to Sundays at the first sign of success, maybe Addazio would have been the better hire.

Fact: Gross did not hire Marrone as a unilateral decision maker. There was a committee appointed to make that hire. Marrone proved to be an excellent hire. Marrone's eventual decision to leave for the NFL is irrelevant to the decision making that lead to his hire.

Let's look at who made the decisions to hire GRob and SS

The OP said he was just dreaming of what might have been. So am I.

I think Addazio would have jumped if he had been hired and dealt with the same hand Marrone had during his time. We have to get over SU football being a destination job at this point.

Neither is BC.

Crusty, I only commented on the OP's post that "Gross hired Marrone instead."

I would not presume to comment on your dreams of Addazio.

Now, if one of you starts posting about freezing your head...

Right, another year and he is gone from there. It is possible to hire right person and get quick results.
Yes, I agree with that. There is enough talent on this roster to be at least an average ACC football team.

That may happen after the BC game.

Gross did hire Marrone. That committee made the recommendation that was then signed off by Gross and the board.

Edsall was the first choice. Bill Hurley was the go between. 8 years/$17M was negotiated. Edsall backed out.

Huh. I thought Cantor would be the top of that line, she was the one who did the final interview and formally offered him the position.

As for the 7 man search committee that SU set up to find, interview, and recommend the next HC (of which Gross was a member), you know for a fact that Gross had unilateral veto power to hire whoever he wanted??

If that were the case, wouldn't Holtz have been the hire?

Negotiations fell through with Holtz. I don't know why you think the AD has less say than a search committee.

And fwiw, cantor would defer to gross.

He did well at ECU. he made a bad choice with USF, but that doesn't mean he would've failed at SU.
His failure at USF does not mean he would have been a great success at SU.

Yep. Doesn't mean he's a bad coach. He's been successful at 3 out of the 4 places that he's been head man. That's a pretty good track record. He's certainly not a great HC and I think his value was inflated when we were chasing him but that doesn't mean that he couldn't have had success at SU. How much is the big question.

Never said that. You interjected your opinion that:

Gross did hire Marrone. That committee made the recommendation that was then signed off by Gross and the board.

This is not true. Gross was one of 7 votes.

So, I'll ask this question differently, do you know for a fact that Gross had the unilateral veto power to NOT follow the recommendations of the Committe he was a part of?
