Adrian Autry Joining UVA Staff

His injury history is also a red flag.
No doubt. But, programs will see the productivity. Some P5 will roll the dice on that if/when he enters the portal and withdraws from the draft (just guessing on entering the draft part).

That’s awesome. I have spent a lot of time in C’ville. Great college town.

Hope he gets a warm welcome when he returns to the Dome (next season I believe?)

Gtown or Providence would be a couple guesses…

As an aside, can anyone think of an example (college or pro sports), where a coach was fired, and then immediately came back as an assistant coach of that team?

Correct. Donnie wouldn’t start at UVA. People are not paying attention when they say Donnie wants $3 million. He has a higher opinion of himself than how he actually performs. He won’t see $1.5 million, which isn’t anything to sneeze at.
I’m not trying to disparage Donnie. It’s nothing to do with him. In fact, I expect him to have much more interest than you and most in here seem to should he enter the portal. I just think UVA specifically is a less likely landing spot as their top scorer / best player plays the same position as him.

His tape against Wilson and UNC when Wilson guarded him 1 on 1, and Donnie killed him, will get Donnie paid. Not drafted, but paid another school will see that tape and pay him on potential. Maybe not a UVA, but there will be schools lining up thinking they can get that Wilson/UNC Donnie every game.

Send the Virginia, Louisville and SMU tapes too. They will see an entirely different player.

He’s not going to get it. Definitely, not at SU. SU could get a lot better for $3 million. Someone who actually tries on both ends of the floor.

100%
A dude who misses half the season due to injury then plays on only one end of the floor for the other half doesn't deserve even $1M.

It just happened with Virginia Tech football. Brent Pry was fired and then new coach James Franklin hired him—I think as defensive coordinator? Awkward….

With the buyout and assistant salary maybe making more then this year? And definitely less stressful being second chair. where do I sign up for this?

May he find that all elusive level 5 juicing station in Charlottesville!

Good for Red. It will be odd seeing him on opposing bench but no more than it was to see Louis Orr on opposing sidelines.

I predicted this exact thing in one of the zillion Autry threads. Perfect assistant coach for the DMV area. He’s a great recruiter and the players love him. I suspect Donnie will end up there with him. Fantastic that he didn’t have to wait out a bunch of seasons to land back in P5.
What made you think that that was going to happen, Meaning waiting to get back in P5?

I expected he would have done something like Hopkins did after leaving Washington. NBA player development type position. Or step down to a lower conference. I suspected he would end up in the DMV recruiting against us, just not right away in the ACC.

I suspect he could have 4-5 Offers down the East Coast including the ACC or Big East alone. Unequivocally an assistant at a lower level, no chance. Did you mean head coaching position at another another Non p5 maybe, probably unlikely for many reasons. NBA player development maybe just to keep in the game. He went where he was wanted and had ties to. Seriously a great spot
