AJ Long medically disqualified due to multiple concussions..transferring

Pretty much what has been alluded to the last few days.

Feel terrible for the kid. AJ is a leader who has done a lot for this program, even though he hasn't played much. Hope for the best for his future--big fan of AJ Long.

Sounds like he's planning on finishing his degree here.

And there will always be room for him on the sidelines or in the booth.

Good luck to the kid moving forward. Gets to graduate with a stellar degree and hopefully move onto bigger and better things outside of football.

He has a Syracuse tattoo on his arm. This kid bleeds orange, but it unfortunately didn't pan out for him. Glad they stopped him before he got worse.

Unfortunate news for AJ. Dungey has a bad one on his resume.

This sport can be so great. And yet can be so painful. It's like a marriage.

Admins can we change this title of thread please and thank you.

Really tough break for the kid. I'm assuming these were all practice concussions, right? Don't recall him receiving one in a game.

A concussion can happen any time the brain gets bounced around. Doesn't have to be an obvious hit. Could be while blocking, falling, etc.

And with the HIPAA laws nowadays, we will never know who does or does not have a concussion in collegiate sports. There are probably many, many more on this team that have a history of concussions.

Frightening sport.

Head hits are cumulative regardless of how bad they are. He might have had multiple small concussions that went possibly unnoticed for a while until they are revealed as a big issue when a kid can't remember or is sensitive to light, etc.

I was expecting this to break tomorrow morning. Sad for AJ.

Well, this sucks.

But on the other hand, I'm glad they caught the risk here. He's young and hopefully still has really good odds to lead a long and healthy life.

This is a true shame. Feel very badly for AJ and wish him the best.

The good news is they caught this and he won't run the risk that other football players do of CTE or other issues later in life. He would make a great recruiting staff member or coach and will get a great SU degree. One door closes but others are opening up. All the best to a great Orangeman

Yep. It's my understanding from talking to some people yesterday that he's definitely planning on working toward becoming a coach.

This sums up AJ right here. Can't imagine he has too many enemies, anywhere.

We could see him as a grad assistant in a few years. I would be 100% for it.

I wonder if he can still play a "role" in assisting with recruiting [maybe as a student assistant to Eric White or as a grad assistant down the road]? There's ways he can continue to contribute to the program whether he suits up or not.

Really sucks for AJ. He's Orange through and through.

I've told others that I can't get my head around the concussion thing. He hadn't played so it must have been in practice. But we protect the hell out of the QBs with different colored jerseys and the soft shell padding over helmets. Usually hitting the QB is a no no. Only thing I can imagine is he may have been running some skout plays, got tripped up and hit his head on the ground.

Regardless, really sucks and I'm glad he is staying here in school.

Yeah you are right, just that I don't recall him ever missing a game with a concussion, which seems a tad unusual given the fact that he's now being forced to retired from football because of it. Regardless, I wish the kid all the best in life. He's been one of the biggest cheerleaders for this program since the moment he committed to come here. We could use more guys like that.
