Coach Mac was a lifetime ago. How's Louisville doing? UNC under Mac? Five years is plenty of time to see where we are.
Apples and Oranges:
Llvll and UNC are WAAAAY ahead of us in terms of facilities, program support, current talent, and recruiting future talent.
Neither of those programs was recovering from being a dumpster fire at worst, to "meh" at best for 15 years.
So, it was a lot easier to plug & play a new HC and start to get some results quickly.
Syracuse Football didn't get "there" under Mac for a LONG time.
And while he had the amazing Nebraska upset fairly early (not unlike Dino w/ Clemson), it still took a few more seasons for us to break thru and become ranked in the Top 25.
If you look at the long history of Syracuse Football, there are extended periods of us being pretty meh.
And a few pockets of greatness:
Schwartzwalder
(but not at the end), Coach Mac, and now Dino has finally at least had 1 year where we won 10 and got back to being ranked again.
Even during Schwartwalder's tenure, there were many lean years.
He had ONE Top 25 team during his first 6 seasons, in year 4.
His teams were ranked about half of the seasons he was coach, and he went 2-7 in bowl games.
We were ranked 3/10 years during the Coach Mac era.
Which took him until Year 7 to achieve.
And Coach P carried that torch for 10/14 years he was here, but clearly fell off at the end.
Anybody in the "Fire Dino" or even "Hot Seat Dino" camps, need to get their heads examined.
It is REALLY HARD to win consistently at Syracuse.
Always has been, always will be.
