And So It Begins

If we have been under investigation for years, wouldn't the NCAA have sent out a preliminary letter long before the hack decided to put up his "breaking" story? The two idiots from cbssports, Dodd and Parrish, think they're funny and cynical/snarky, but they're just hacks.

This "story" is literally something we have known going on two years now. It will be interesting to see what the allegations are, but at worst imagine some wins are taken away and we lose some scholarships. Maybe a one year ban which will suck but isn't a killer.

"An NCAA investigator was in Central New York in August questioning at least one former SU professor about the university’s handling of a 2007 sexual assault complaint against three basketball players, the professor said.
The investigator, Meg Babcock Locker, spent two hours interviewing former professor David Potter at his home in Manlius, he said last week. Potter recommended Locker also interview SU professor and former dean Cathryn Newton."

If the investigation has gone on for years and there is nothing concrete as of now, what the hell is the big deal?

We have been under investigation for a while but nothing the NCAA ever does is without fault. They aren't exactly the most competent organization around.

You know the saddest part of this article is the COMPLETE FAILURE to follow proper Journalism standards. Being a Broadcast Journalism graduate from Syracuse we were taught ALL JOURNALISTS should always get TWO sources before reporting anything. This article is generating buzz based off of ONE ANONYMOUS source and that really pisses me off. However, Dennis Dodd and CBS honestly don't give a s#it because they have to be the first to report this.
just because he only cited one in the text does not mean he didn't verify with another one (or more)

Anyone else find it interesting that the Post Standard had their article ready to go so quickly after the CBS post?

What else do they have to do? They only publish three days a week now.

Yeah...it took them all of an hour. Either they've been dying to release it or they have the fastest writers around. Plus they have 3 reporters listed, so they've had it in the works for a while.

Hey, did syracuse.com put up an article that has information about the 2007 sexual assault?

It did have at least one typo in it:

“That would certainly be the case if they were trying to keep kids eligible,” he said of the SU allegations. Unusual administra315-tive involvement in judicial affairs would also qualify as reckless disregard for the rules, Ridpath said.

Throw a dart at the tax Code and all the posters on this board would go to jail...:(

Not sure. Paper is only printed on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday and I don't have internet. Have to wait until tomorrow to find out.

Anyone know how these violations could affect the program? Are we looking at just forfeiting a few scholarships and wins or are we looking at the works; post seasons bans etc...?

regardless of the timing of Dodd's post and the quality of his sources - those of you who believe there is nothing to this are going to be disappointed
We shall see.

I don't care that the 'article' says very little. I don't care about the timing. I don't care about all the rationalizations about it being inconsequential, or that everyone already knew about it. I don't care if Cal's doing the same or worse and getting away with it.

This stinks. There's a contact-stink on our program. We've had too much stink attached to our program over the past few years. I want an acid bath and a power cleanse.

Denying it is just denial...

The big deal now is that it's tournament time, and it involves a school with one of the largest fanbases in college basketball.
They know exactly what they are doing, and it's working since it has all of us talking.

That was my first reaction. The p/s had this story researched, quoted and ready to go at the first hint of it breaking...but they weren't going to be the one to break it.

Very very interesting.,,.

Probably not the best sign. IMO

Mike Waters: "This is mainly an academic situation..."

Mike Waters: "This isn't a huge shock. This is a catch-and-grab because of the timing of the Tournament."

Yep.

This has been bubbling for a while. Drama central.
