Angeli has arrived

I wasn't calling you out directly, and I don't doubt your source. I think the whole debate around these two quarterbacks going back to when Angeli was being recruited here has had undertones.

Stuff about running/pocket passing QBs when both QBs actually have similar profiles.

But I've never heard anyone say a white QB is "struggling to learn the playbook". Black QBs are automatically all painted with the same brush. Lamar Jackson is STILL getting hammered for "decision-making" and he's one of the best QBs in the NFL.
I think your making this to much about race. A month ago you posted on here how Rickie is being stereotyped on this board as a dual threat because he’s a black QB, when I went to reply it said the post was deleted. If you look at 247 or on3 they both have Rickie as a dual threat, he is the definition of dual threat and has even said in interviews how he can use his legs to escape pocket.

I removed the post myself because the High School stats I first found were incomplete, so didn't give the full picture of his play style.

Doesn't change the fact there has still been a lot of racial stereotypes posted here. I don't think it's a bad thing to point out bias and how people are perceived even if some don't see it that way. And that some people want "a QB closer to McCord" even though Angeli is closer to Collins than McCord in style of play than a lot think.

Anyways, I'll leave it there.

I'm sure the best QB will win the job.

stereotypical trope
Not outlandish at all. "Decision making" is a lot different than "mastering the mental aspects" or "not grasping the playbook".

One makes it sound like he's dumb and the other is something all QBs can have issues with at times.
not one person said he's dumb, your assuming because people say something that its some racist nonsense. why does someone not grasping something to the level the coaches expect have to be racist. this has nothing to do with the color of a person skin but the ability to run an offense how the coaches see fit. if he blew them away they wouldn't have brought in another player.

I am fine with whoever wins the job, don't care about anything else. I think you will see both of them take meaningful snaps this year. Not sure either is going to be great right out of the gate, good I hope.

Never said the coaches were racist. It's okay to be thoughtful and nuanced about the words we use, and how they can negatively impact perception.

Wow, "...a lot of racial stereotypes posted here." Again, based on who's definition/standards? Yours? High horse much?

Very broad brush, who made you the moral arbiter of racial justice for this community?

Jackson himself said he struggled with the playbook …

As for Collins his HS stuff isn’t hard to find.

HIGH SCHOOL
Rated as one of the Top 10 players in the state of Louisiana for the Class of 2023 … Followed up an outstanding junior season by connecting on 127-of-209 passes for 1,512 yards and 17 TDs … Rushed for another 598 yards and 6 scores … Passed for 1,930 yards and 16 TDs as a junior on his way to earning All-Metro and LSWA Class 5A All-State honors … In a 5-game season in 2020, totaled 1,449 yards and 16 TDs … Three-sport athlete at Woodlawn – football, basketball and baseball … Finalist at the Elite 11 QB camp, which annually attracts the nation’s top prep quarterbacks … Coached at Woodlawn by former LSU starting quarterback Marcus Randall.

Let’s just let it go.

He is clearly racist.

So to me even if Angeli wins QB1, I still want Collins getting some game reps depending on scenarios. Best way for him to get better is to have some live action and game tape. Have Nixon work up 5 to 8 packages around maybe short yardage or redzone perhaps.
Yup that makes sense. When the QB is good enough to move the ball down the field and right when we have important plays to get a first down and get close to the end zone to score points let's put the backup QB right at the most critical points in the game.

You have inexplicably turned it in to race thing. Whether he’s black, white, green, or yellow he struggles with mental aspects of the position. We have had many Black quarterbacks that didn’t have this problem. I’m sure we have had many white players that struggled as well

Lot of stereotypical tropes I'm starting to see popping up here when comparing Collins with Angeli...

Because he got hurt before the spring game, it's giving people the ability to throw nonsense out there.
True but people are also taking into account the Pena comment that indicated he didn’t think we had the QB talent needed to win.
After that Fran got Angeli.
So it’s understandable people would make some assumptions.

There is an irony that if true Pena wasn't enthused about the QB situation that it seems likely his departure freed up the NIL to improve the QB situation.

I don't read into Pena's alleged comments as a knock against Collins, too much. Pena is a borderline NFL prospect, who put up monster numbers last year, and likely needs another monster year to get drafted.

Collins -- as would be EVERY other QB in D1 football, including the Manning's, Bennet's, etc. of the college football landscape -- would be a step down in terms of productivity from McCord. Period, hard stop. And Collins is unproven, so not surprised AT ALL that Pena expressed concern.

Doesn't mean that Collins's long term potential isn't strong, or that he would fail if he becomes the starter. Pena was just looking out for his self-interests.

And I don't even read much into the staff going out and snagging Angeli. No roster spot is safe; it is the staffs' job to go out and recruit OVER every single player on the roster, and add to the talent base at every position. They did this with Collins, despite having Jakhari Williams in house. And they did it after spring ball with Anglei, despite having Collins in the fold.

It is up to the returning players to fend off the newcomers. And it is up to the newcomers to leapfrog the incumbents.

May the best players earn the PT.

Best guy is going to play. Regardless of what anyone opinion on this board is the staff is color blind

precisely. It's also a tough schedule and having someone who has real game experience going into TN matters. Not to mention additional depth is critical.

We have had African-American QBs in this program who were extremely celebral football players (McNabb, Graves, McPherson) and ones that weren't.

We have had white QBs in this program who were extremely celebral (e.g. McCord) and others who ran backwards 30 yards for safeties at critical junctures.

While racial stereotypes are absolutely a thing, and historically black QBs have to deal with way more toxic BS* on average than white QBs, at this point, I don't see any evidence that any criticism of Collins is racial.

*e.g. there are actually people walking amongst us who think Lamar Jackson isn't a pure passer despite the fact that he's third in the history of the NFL in passer rating.

Is Steve Angeli the Matt Flynn of college football? It seems ND coaches didn't trust him enough, having brought in Sam Hartman in 2023 and Riley Leonard in 2024.

We had Tommy who would run out of bounds many times behind the line of scrimmage, rather then throw the ball out of bounds.

Looks like AngelI can be a good QB at SU, not a superstar but a good solid player. We will never see a Kyle McCord again but this kid is very experienced and should be able to step right in as the starter
I agree that Angeli can be a good qb at SU. I don't agree that we will never see a Kyle McCord again. While McCord obviously is a good qb and had a great season (besides one game) it's not like he was Peyton Manning or Dan Marino. I think we absolutely can and should have another qb at the same level as McCord in the not too distant future.
