Anyone have a link or channel for the game? firstrows link isnt working today.
Because we are a basketball school. The sooner people accept it the less upset you will be when the seats are not filled up.What has happened to the attendance? I know the GROB years decimated the fanbase, but you'd think central New Yorkers would be back supporting this team after 3 moderately successful seasons and a more consistently entertaining product. Student section looks solid with the free tickets, but the rest of the Dome is an absolute ghost town. Totally embarrassing.
I agree with both points in this thread. The scheduling makes no sense. We absolutely need to start the year with a winning record. Despite many people seeing us as a basketball school, it would increase attendance, but only as long as it lasts. Syracuse is filled with notoriously fair-weathered fans, IMO. Can you imagine the Dome attendance for basketball if we were 9-12?

When you start the year 0-2 you lost a big chunk if not all of the "casual fan-base". It's a fact! People in this area where college football isn't a "religion" aren't gonna pay money to watch an 0-2 team play. You will always have your die-hard fans every week but you aren't going to pack the Dome with a team having a losing record. People work hard in this area and won't give up their Satruday's and days off to pay money to watch a team with a losing/bad record. It's just the way it is.
Take a note from Boehiem's playbook, schedule cupcakes early. SU now plays enough quality and tough teams IN CONFERENCE (FSU/Clemson..etc)since we moved to the ACC no need to play tough non-conference games anymore. Seriously, there is nothing to gain by it for a rebuilding program like SU. We need to insure 6 wins a year, a bowl game and most importantly the extra weeks of practice that brings. That is more important than playing a September game vs a Big Boy team where we lose and put our self behind the 8-ball to open the season!
And no way hoops draws 30k if we are 9-12. this town is as fair weather as it comes.
The day the pearl stepped on campus we became a basketball school. Why is this never going to change? We weren't always a basketball school.

I havent missed a home basketball game in 16 years and went to every NIT game including the NIT game where we drew. 27000 peopledid you happen to go to any of the games our NIT seasons? i could be wrong, but i don't think we came close to 30k that season
Which is more people that was in the dome todaySenior day in 2008, our 2nd straight NIT season we had 23k
This I have to disagree with. Alabama would draw more than 42,000. Absolutely, no doubt, 100%...at the same time I see what youre saying. The problem lies in that its Tulane. We will get a bigger crowd for Clemson, Pitt, BC than we did today. If you look at hoops, how many people come when we play teams like Wagner last year? For a lot of schools its a lot, but realistically there were 13,000 in the seats (Im sure announced was 5K bigger) for a 35K capacity stadium. Do I expect us to sell out 35K for Wagner in basketball..no. I really do believe that there are some other forces that have made our attendance for football what it is. 1) Get a Life...many did. 2) G Rob years. 3) TV...every game is on TV and its a hell of a lot easier for people to watch it on TV than have to go to a game. It sucks, and I dont get it as I am at every game, but its reality. Partially Marsh is right. Partially its other factors.
