looks like its on par with Wagner attendence.

The helmets and unis look good though

What has happened to the attendance? I know the GROB years decimated the fanbase, but you'd think central New Yorkers would be back supporting this team after 3 moderately successful seasons and a more consistently entertaining product. Student section looks solid with the free tickets, but the rest of the Dome is an absolute ghost town. Totally embarrassing.

Anyone have a link or channel for the game? firstrows link isnt working today.

When you start the year 0-2 you lost a big chunk if not all of the "casual fan-base". It's a fact! People in this area where college football isn't a "religion" aren't gonna pay money to watch an 0-2 team play. You will always have your die-hard fans every week but you aren't going to pack the Dome with a team having a losing record. People work hard in this area and won't give up their Satruday's and days off to pay money to watch a team with a losing/bad record. It's just the way it is.

Take a note from Boehiem's playbook, schedule cupcakes early. SU now plays enough quality and tough teams IN CONFERENCE (FSU/Clemson..etc)since we moved to the ACC no need to play tough non-conference games anymore. Seriously, there is nothing to gain by it for a rebuilding program like SU. We need to insure 6 wins a year, a bowl game and most importantly the extra weeks of practice that brings. That is more important than playing a September game vs a Big Boy team where we lose and put our self behind the 8-ball to open the season!

The crowd was Wagner-sized to be sure. I was really surprised, because driving up and walking in there looked to be a decent crowd. No. I am sure Clemson will be a better draw. But there are no excuses for this. Need to get more fannies in there.

Because we are a basketball school. The sooner people accept it the less upset you will be when the seats are not filled up.

Its a debate you cant even argue

I agree with both points in this thread. The scheduling makes no sense. We absolutely need to start the year with a winning record. Despite many people seeing us as a basketball school, it would increase attendance, but only as long as it lasts. Syracuse is filled with notoriously fair-weathered fans, IMO. Can you imagine the Dome attendance for basketball if we were 9-12?

It would still draw 30,000 three times.

Basketball they talk about moving the court to the floor to try and get 45,000.

Football an undefeated #1 ranked Alabama could come in and we wouldnt draw 42,000.

It is what it is and its never going to change.

so say SU starts with Wagner.. I doubt we sell more than 33k but maybe a few more.. then we play tulane and bump that up a few more to 38k then lose to PSU and get drilled by NW.. people would be jumping ship and clemson would not be full.. we have a better chance now for a solid attendance, but anything over 42K is fine if they show up.

Actually, student section was less than Wagner from my observation. Hang your heads low, students.

Hoping for better in 2 weeks. We'll see...

Right on the money! Could not agree more.

Want a bigger crowd? Get more than just locals to go. With the rare travelers, nobody outside of Syracuse goes. Neither do the alumni. It's only locals season ticket holders going.

what another pathetic showing. i know the attendance was announced larger then Wagner, but it wasn't the actual case. Absolutely embarrassment. Not to mention half the people there aren't even paying attention to the game, and too busy socializing. I actually got looks by the people in front of me who were trying to talk and i was yelling in the seat behind them. i gave them a look that said DO NOT WITH ME, and they went right back to gossiping. I looked around and it was happening all over, nobody clapping, cheering, etc. Plus the student section totally cleared out at halftime. By the beginning of the 4th quarter we were lucky if there was 12k left.

And no way hoops draws 30k if we are 9-12. this town is as fair weather as it comes. everyone wants to sit home, watch on tv, and b!tch about the uniforms (which are quite nice if i may add), but nobody can get out and support the team. simply pathetic

i forgot to add what a terrible job by the syracuse marketing department. didn't hear 1 word all week about this being our 700th win

Why is this never going to change? We weren't always a basketball school.

this i don't understand? it's not even like college basketball is that popular. it's popularity is very localized. with the amount of college football shows, and air time you would think people would want to be a part of something? it actually seems it is going backwards up here. i guess we will just have to win, and win with 8 or 9 wins a season for a couple years to win fans back. only problem with that is kids don't want to go to schools that can barely fill half their stadiums. were really in a tough spot, and need as much as possible invested into getting fans back in the seats. i do like some of the new things they are trying up at the Dome. The live DJ is a great idea, so is the train whistle, and yes even the new uniforms.

did you happen to go to any of the games our NIT seasons? i could be wrong, but i don't think we came close to 30k that season

Senior day in 2008, our 2nd straight NIT season we had 23k

I havent missed a home basketball game in 16 years and went to every NIT game including the NIT game where we drew. 27000 people

This I have to disagree with. Alabama would draw more than 42,000. Absolutely, no doubt, 100%...at the same time I see what youre saying. The problem lies in that its Tulane. We will get a bigger crowd for Clemson, Pitt, BC than we did today. If you look at hoops, how many people come when we play teams like Wagner last year? For a lot of schools its a lot, but realistically there were 13,000 in the seats (Im sure announced was 5K bigger) for a 35K capacity stadium. Do I expect us to sell out 35K for Wagner in basketball..no. I really do believe that there are some other forces that have made our attendance for football what it is. 1) Get a Life...many did. 2) G Rob years. 3) TV...every game is on TV and its a hell of a lot easier for people to watch it on TV than have to go to a game. It sucks, and I dont get it as I am at every game, but its reality. Partially Marsh is right. Partially its other factors.
