Anyone hear this new stadium rumor

The project to develop the inner harbor was awarded to COR development. They have already cleared oust of the land and dilapidated structures. I'm fairly certain construction of condos, shops, and a satellite for. OCC is planned for this year. I think the inner harbor location has sailed.

they are also building an Accor hotel

you are right and BassPro wanted to build a huge store there and leave the one as a outlet/clearance store in Auburn. Cor is dead set against that and so was Minor

Yes, most of that is west of the harbor. There's one more parcel north of that that could accommodate a stadium, but I think you're right - the land for such a development is spoken for.

the carrier dome is 497 feet wide by 570 long http://www.ajc.com/places/syracuse_carrier-dome/

so when you go the map Texanmark posted try to scale it one of the parking lots. the city may have to claim water st. and the buildings north of it to have a stadium with a buffer around it. will the city shutdown Erie Blvd. during games days to leave access open to fire and rescue?

If some has the know how maybe they could superimpose the carrier dome over the Kennedy square footprint

I'm no good at that, but that ~500' width looks to be too much for the space between Fayette and Water, even if the brand-new biotech building were torn down to make way.

Like that deal with Price Chopper that keeps Wegmans out of Albany and Rensselaer counties. I'd be happy to trade you guys a Trader Joes and Whole Foods in exchange for a couple of Wegmans.

love them both... but they are a tad diff than wegmans.

wegmans is basically a publix and whole foods combined.

also... atlanta is getting sprouts later this year. anyone from out west? How are sprouts?

I just scaled with a rule the Carrier Dome over the Kennedy square site and the dome as it's built now would go almost over to canal street. just by width from Washington st.

They are going to piss a lot of people off using eminent domain law to build there

COR owns the rights to both lots if the paper is correct

Yeah, but...it's within a mile to both The White House and Capitol Hill...that the area was a ghosttown for so long speaks to how poorly DC was run for so long. DC has been completely redone in 20 years, so the Verizon Center was as much if not moreso a beneficiary than a catalyst for development.

Abe Pollin knew what was coming, for sure. No way of knowing, but I would guess that the arena accelerated the redevelopment that would have eventually occurred anyway. Without Pollin, probably Chinatown today looks like NoMa - lower rents, less retail, just starting to get built out with a number of empty parcels still remaining.[/quote]

Or the area around Nats Park that is still a long ways away...my point is that the real estate there is still very, very valuable minus being close to the Wizards and Hoyas. That is was so scary was a reflection on DC city government.

Very true.

actually the Kennedy Square land is more valuable to new business under Cuomo's new tax plan where they give away the house plus income tax for ten years as it is right next to the University. Under that plan it either has to be on campus or close enough to qualify to be included.

Sprouts is your basic smaller footprint organic food store. A nice chain but not in the same hemisphere as Wegmans.

Similar to the Price Chopper deal, there was always talk they had a similar arrangement with Ukrops family in Richmond, VA...Ukrops has since been sold to Martin's.

From what I've been told, Wegmans hasn't been able to expand any further south because they're reaching the end point of their current distribution setup. So while they've taken over NoVA, they've only gone as far south as Fredericksburg (and more recently, Charlottesville) because they can still distribute from their current centers. Plus, they like to do a slow, methodical build out and only do a few stores a year to ensure quality control.

The next step to expanding in Carolinas is a distribution center further south..and I heard that a while back they had purchased land west of Richmond in the event that they ever did want to expand (nothing definitive at that time, only bought land because it was a good location / deal and made sense for future expansion). Take it all with a grain of salt...but it's clear that they entered the NoVA market and absolutely crushed it in a few years. They definitely could do the same in the rest of VA and in Carolinas if they wanted to.

I'm thinking of the big one bounded by Bear, Van Rensselaer, Hiawatha, and Pulaski. That's mostly vacant but controlled by a hodgepodge of owners.

Maybe we copy Clemson's pre-game ritual... Warm-ups in the new IPF, load buses then drive to the new stadium at the Fairgrounds. 45k strong going bananas in the new arena upon their arrival?!

This is about as good a guess as any right now. Lots of decisions/logistics/economics to be determined. New Chancellor will be committed to either upgrading the Dome or doing something else.

of course not... meant it as a comparison to whole foods/trader joes

yep. that was exactly what i was talking about. As soon as I read the name, I recalled it.

That area is on the other side of the creek/harbor from where I was thinking. That story is about the area around amphitheater around Kirkpatrick and Van Rensselear. Based on that picture it would be complimentary, not in conflict at all.

No competition for either...Whole Foods/Trader Joe's gets a lot of disposible high income folks going shopping at a trendy to be seen spot. Sprouts (in San Antonio at least) got more organic granola eaters and store is not pretentious at all. It might be different in the ATL.

ive always heard that there was some deal in place that kept them from moving further south.

no idea if that is true or not. just what ive heard a few times.

they would crush publix and kroger.
Albany please - come on Wegmans!
