Our outside shooting is fair at best. Mookie doesn't play and now I think he has lost his touch and or confidence. James streaky and Kris has just gone away from that part of his game Triche is still decent and there is Dion but all are not what you might say is consistent. Cooney might be the big 3 man next year I guess so that is probably Jimmy's look ahead.SUball

I want Cooney to rain 3's on Duke and UNC for at least 2 years. I like the redshirt. I agree, though, that we may regret redshirting at one point this season.

Joseph leads the team in three-point attempts and makes. His three-point shooting percentage is only a couple of points behind Southerland. Don't forget about Jardine.

Not missing Cooney. He wasn't going to get enough PT.

We seem to be doing just fine without someone who would be our 11th man.

I think it would be a mistake if he did not redshirt. he would get very minimal minutes if any at all in most big east games. Our current players are more than capable and not shy taking three pointers. I am confident in the likes of KJ, Mookie, JS, BT and DW taking threes. None of them would hesitate taking a three and they would not be a defensive liability like Cooney would be at this point. I look forward to seeing Cooney for the next 4 years! its good to be Orange!

Even as a rival fan who also roots for Cuse due to family ties... The answer is no. Cuse has plenty of guys that can both shoot from deep and be triple threats / create their own shot. If anything it was smart as Cuse already has so many Guys that figuring out lineups / pt is a challenge. For me... Cuse has been ridiculous and look like a final four team right now, and they're only going to get better

At first, I thought it was a mistake because I think Cooney brings things to the table that others lack and he will be a great asset when he plays. However, given how little time he would see on the court with so many guys ahead of him, I now agree that the redshirt is a good idea. It must be tough on him though.

Joseph and Southerland shoot 40% from 3. There are no guard minutes available. Triche is 39%.

Who knows what Cooney would shoot? I'm guessing if he was the next coming of Reggie Miller he'd be playing. We are a damn good 3 point shooting team. Don't need him.

Scoop is our worst of the regulars at 33% or so. Now, he's not Gerry, but in the clutch, I like Scoop taking a 3. Underrated onions. Just cause Cooney shot well in HS or in a couple lame scrimmages doesn't mean he's Craig Hodges. Staff knows what's up. And it's annoying that you think we aren't a good shooting team. We are. 3 main guys at 40%? I'll take that.

I was 100% against redshirting him. But I think JSouth has provided more than I expected. Dion seems to be more consistent than expected and Joseph is probably the best shooter on the team. Mookie is the non-factor I expected. All things considered I guess the redshirt is the best idea. It is still possible at some point that Cooney could have helped win a game. I strongly believe that if a team tries to force us to shoot from outside we have enough variety and quantity that they can't all be covered or they can't all be cold at the same time. Joseph, Triche, Scoop, Waiters, MCW, Fair, JSouth. All can shoot the 3 when open. Joseph, Scoop, Triche, Waiters, Fair and MCW can all go by their man if covered too closely. I think we'll be fine.

We really aren't that good a 3 pt shooting team. Not bad but not good. We are ranked 110th in the country in 3pt%. There are about 30 teams that shoot 40%+.

Their is a logjam in the backcourt , he not get much needed minutes to develop his game and his season would slip away .
By being on the bench he is learning the college game . He should do well next season .

Hmm. Guess we just seem good. I like those numbers from our main guys. Compared to years past? We have more guys who can hit 3's than ever. I'll take that over Nichols or bust or whatever.

This is the best overall 3 pt shooting team in regard to versatility we've had in awhile.

Don't crush beliefs with facts Bees. 110th is pretty bad. Kind of unexpectedly this team is all about defense.

...with KJ and Dirty at 40% and Triche at 39% there is little reason to even consider having Cooney suit up this year...my bet is next year he will be the running mate with MCW as Waiters and Triche will be the starters...

I do think we have more guys that are good but lack that great one.

With 340 or so teams, we are in the top 1/3. Not great but not bad. And yes, we are well up there in defensive type stats. I don't think I ever remember an SU team where defense was the face of the team and not offense.

Thee is more to playing time than just launching threes.

Just like in football the defense can take only so far.at some point we are going to need those 3s 2-13 against Seton Hall with the defense works but lets see the Zd work against UCONN and the other quality teams before we claim that the D is the face of the team.SUball

So glad we get to watch him play four years with real minutes.
