are there any JB defenders left?

Yes, Smart has been up and down. I said so myself in response to someone listing him as a candidate.

He's not my number 1 choice. But if you don't cherry pick JB's last 2 tournament runs, Smart has been somewhat better, despite having a bad spell at Texas and getting fired.

So, just to be clear, over the last 6-7 years, JB's record is worse than a guy who was fired, and is at his rebound job.

Certainly Smart would have a more promising future than Boeheim at this point. That's undeniable. Boeheim won't win 20 games again, no matter how many years he wants to stay.
agree that Smart has a more promising future than Boeheim. Also, think Smart would be worth a call. he's got energy, plays an entertaining style, relatively young and can recruit.

The whole “following a legend” thing isn’t going to be nearly as big of a deal for the next guy as it would’ve been 5 years ago.

Who the heck couldn’t follow and top what we’ve done in the 2020’s? The glory days are getting further and further in the rear view mirror. Might make this job even more attractive for the next guy. You just start regularly making the tourney again and have 1 great year, and you’re beloved.

At least the bar is low, probably makes the job more desirable.

I’ve enjoyed watching Syracuse Basketball my entire life. I’ve considered myself fortunate to have chosen Syracuse in my fandom.

Recent years have been difficult because we’ve been so accustomed to a high level of success for so long. For non teenagers anyway.

I’m so appreciative of what Coach Boeheim has really been the architect of. I will always hold him in the highest regard for that. Not only because of his success within the program, but because of his love for this community and town as well. His loyalty and longevity are I believe unprecedented. Has there been a longer serving head coach in college sports history? Not football… can’t find one in basketball that I’m aware of.

But, this year has been tough. I’ve been apathetic. Constant roster churn (that’s just commonplace now) and mediocre results accompanied by a busier life with my family and career have impacted that.

My personal opinion is to not watch idols tarnish their legacy by hanging on. And athletes, the game and society have changed. Young blood will ultimately and always win. It’s inevitable. I’m trying to enjoy what’s left, but it’s not easy.

As much as I support Jim Boeheim, and always have, I would also support him in retirement. And I hope he can find fulfillment in that next chapter. He’s certainly earned it.

Do you think they should fire him this year? I think everyone would support him in retirement

I see posts last couple of years where you called other posters whiners for trying to explain to you this would be his ending if he stayed on.

You deserve this ending. JB didn't. He needed his true fans/friends/Wildhack to step in and help him and they didn't.

Realistically, no idea what the University thinks.

If you asked me in January, I would’ve firmly said no. I thought next year would be the swan song.

With each passing game, it gets harder to believe that the status quo will continue for much longer.

I’m starting to think that there will be a joint press conference at the end of the year where plans will be announced. Whatever they may be.

?

Sure bud.

I don’t recall ever calling a poster a whiner, but whatever.

*** Fair enough. Post found. I guess this is the ending I deserved.

Hes back next year
Awesome Super Cool GIF

I think it was supposed to be more year but it's gonna be it after the loss in the NCAAT next week. The timeline got moved up by a year with 4 straight historic losses.

I think he walks away with one bad year, he won't be able to stomach it. This year won't end up with a bad record but this meltdown and exodus might be enough for him to say, I'm good. Otherwise I think they wait for the end of a truly bad season to force it

I’d be very, very surprised if he doesn’t come back for next season. It may or may not be announced that will be his last, but I suspect it will be.

I never thought JB was the type who’d want to take a victory lap ala Coach K, but the past few years have changed my mind. I think he does.

I don’t get the point of another year at all. They can’t run it back with this group. He’s not going to get good players. We’ve already punted on enough years. Every season he stays is another year of punting.

I don’t disagree, but I also don’t think his ego is going to allow him to walk away after this collapse.

Victory lap... That's rich.

How about forced retirement/fired instead?

It's long past time and it's not even debatable.

People at least liked or respected Coach K.
Most think that - at best - JAB is a whiny yet whimsical (see: tossed jacket) coach.
At worst? Multiple cheating scandals and what it's become now. A farse.

Force him out. It’s time. Wildhack has no cajones if he doesn’t. Jurich did it with Crum and Denny was 13 years younger. Bring in Pitino or Sean Miller and all will be right with the Syracuse basketball world.
