Attendance for Liberty

I’m starting to think that people on both sides of this fence aren’t going to change their mind

did army change their covid rules? pretty much the same as SU would be if the games was outside but they are on the honor system.

no you're speculating it would be 'pretty much the same.' The music amph in Onondaga county is outdoors and requires proof of vax or test to enter. Mitchie doesn't. Neither does UAlbany.

These are the Michie Stadium rules:

Current Department of Defense (DOD) and West Point policies require all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask when indoors at all facilities except when actively eating or drinking. At Michie Stadium, this includes the Hoffman Press Box, Kimsey Club, suites, elevators and restrooms.

All individuals who have not been fully vaccinated must also wear masks outdoors at all times except when actively eating or drinking. Fans who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear a mask when outdoors at West Point.

You do not need vax proof or negative test to enter the stadium.

Lots of outdoor venues require vax or test just to enter. Amphitheatre comes to mind. Not Mitchie. But that's not the point. Point is lack of attendance at the Dome is due to covid. Whether for or against. You have the unvaxed who can't get in and don't want to deal with the test and the vaxed who are terrified.

Lack of attendance is because of our record last year and Rutgers this year. The subtleties in having a few thousand more or less each game is because of Covid. If we win tonight and against Florida state we’ll see a decent crowd for WF. If we beat WF we’ll see a phenomenal crowd for Clemson. People will make the effort with or without Covid rules if the team is on the right track.

We'll agree to disagree. I think Covid easily prevents and extra 10-15K from walking through the turnstiles. Especially on Friday night. Our non caring friends would go with us on Friday nights just to party. Noone really cared what the record was. The 25 or so people I know who aren't going tonight obviously doesn't move the needle but how many people out there are doing the same? It adds up. Beautiful night tonight to. Perfect night to pre-game and post game.

I personally have no issues wearing a mask but I'm not going to go get a test just to get into the game. I'll watch on TV.

i was basically responding to your comment that there were no covid rules, which there are. And again, you can’t compare michie to the dome.

if we were 3-0 no covid there would be 5-10K more tickets sold, maybe. 3-0 might have pushed a few more in anyway.. i dont think Friday has much effect , how many HS fball keeps away who knows.

If I was a casual fan but liked NFL you literally have the chance to see a first-round, maybe top pick at QB in Willis. That's always been my thing. I'll go every game but I really enjoy seeing top pro prospects too.

The number seems steep but I think we all know people on either side of the covid debate that didn’t get tickets this year due to rules or lack there of. More so than those not getting tickets, in my circle I know many families that kept their tickets but haven’t been to a game yet due to the hassle of getting all the kids tested prior to the game. With school, sports, extra curricular etc not everyone has time to load up the car and get covid tests every week.

Didn't 20K people just attend a mandatory vax/test Foo Fighters show last week? Granted the Foos are more entertaining than anything SU football has done in 2 years, but still.

I think Friday nights hurt us with scholastic sports. I think the product on the field and COVID obviously hurt us. I am also starting to wonder if the school only wants 20,000 or so this year (sorry not buying the 31,000 announced). The push for tickets seems to be non-existent to the non rabid fan. I of course could be missing the promotions that are out there.

I went to see DMB at SPAC last weekend. It required a vax card or negative test. Place was absolutely packed, could tell no difference between attendance pre covid and now.

If the entertainment value is worth it, people will attend. Very few non-fanatics are gonna jump through hoops to see a bad (until proven otherwise) cuse team.

I've been to 3 concerts there this summer and not once was I asked for my vax card or neg test or anything ?

Yep. I was there.

from my experience it’s based on the act, not the venue. I’ve been to two shows this summer at the same place, one required and one didn’t. And the one that required had its own checkpoint before you even went through security or had to scan your ticket

It’s fine, I disagree but no big deal. We just see it different. Ultimately all we both want is to see more people in the dome regardless of why they’re not there now.

People also aren’t thrilled on the mask rule that’s in effect.

That probably is more or a concern for people with Covid than proving they are vaxed or negative test

we aren't some huge state school that can draw big just from a massive student body, we need to be a fun and competitive team to draw. we haven't been that since 2018.
